My house was destroyed by tornado this morning

ROY222ROY222 Member Posts: 548 ✭✭✭

Hi,

My house was destroyed by the tornado this morning. Check the Louisville, KY news stations. My house is the lead story. I must have had a bullseye on my house as it was damaged the worse in the Clark County. I was almost killed twice this morning. I have a big * on my head when the ceiling fell on me. A few minutes later the bedroom crashed down right on my bed. I was not in it at the time.

I am a mess. Everything is a mess.

I went to drive the F350 to go to the store and someone had stolen the catalytic converter. Part of the house hit the truck so I guess I need to file an insurance claim for both.

Pray for me.

Randy

That is terrible.....it has to be a shock to have that happen. Try to take things as slowly as possible...people will take advantage of your state of mind if they can

Man, that's a load of bad luck right there, really glad the ceiling falling didn't do you in and you're OK. Tornado's, hurricanes & floods are very dangerous.....and destructive, I've experienced each quite a few times in my life. Hopefully many prayers are coming your way, take them, you'll need'em.

When I try, I start shaking like I am going into shock.

I am standing guard tonight. People have been showing up saying they want to do an appraisal and look inside the house. I think they were mainly checking to see if it was occupied and if they could steal anything.

The ceiling hit me in the head and I can barely walk now. The ambulance said it was not to bad. It looks bad. I cannot feel anything. My whole body is numb.

I think I just need to vent/release stress and know that I am not alone.

I called the county police and requested extra attention to the area. He stopped by and talked. Nice guy with a very difficult job. He was a big former Marine that never stopped being a Marine. I wanted him to drive up and down the street with his flashers on. He said that he could not do that as it may cause a panic. The fire department and other agencies can do it.

    Everything is closed until Monday.

I cannot go to an emergency room. It might be $10000 for a visit. I may have lost everything that I saved and collected my entire life in one morning.

I cannot drive at night anymore either.

I hope you have a close friend or family members that can help you out

I can not image loosing every thing and being alone to face it

I also Hope some one else jumps in on the conversation to keep you mind busy

As for me I have to try and get to bed now I have been up way too long but that's normal for me

i do hope you can find a place to feel safe and try and get some rest also

ROY222...I was a residential/Commercial Insurance Adjuster for 25+ years....CALL your Ins. Co. immediately , as their adjusters may very well be swamped, so get in line early...IF it was a large area effected they will send in "Storm Troopers", Adjusters from surrounding areas & even from other states to handle claims as quickly as possible, yes, Ins Co's have "Disaster Teams"...probably get you put up in a Hotel & take care of everything the best they can...sorry to hear, but most things can be replaced...you'll get thru this hang in there...luck...

They should have a curfew in the area....they should also have all the roads BLOCKED that lead into the area with only residents being allowed in. WHY is someone able to drive around in this area???? You should call the chief of police and tell him they should have the area blocked off at the very least, so the patrol guys can keep watch on things more easily.

    @ROY222 :

I can't offer any professional advice, but I (and a lot of others here) know what its like to deal with tragedy and loss. Step 1 is "don't panic". Yeah, it looks bleak and you're hurting and it's hard to see a positive end. But there will be a positive end.

Take special care of your mental and emotional states. I know it isn't easy, but little steps will help. Steps so small they seem insignificant. All it takes is one little victory, no matter how small, to set yourself up for another and another and another. After a while, those little wins add up and you're making progress almost out of habit.

Secure the things that are important to you, the things that can't be replaced, and the things that you will need for the next week or two. The rest will work out as long as you're positive and focused.

You can do this. You can get thru this.

You folks might want to actually check the news from Louisville. The CBS station there has zero mention of tornadoes in today's news.

@ROY222 have you called your insurance companies 24/7 number yet? They should get you immediate help. In one way or another. Also get yourself to the local urgent care.... I will continue to pray that the Lord supplies all your needs.

Another thought for your GoFundMe page see if you can post it on your local Neighborhood Watch Facebook page.

Or have someone do it for you if you don't have a Facebook account.

A person showed up saying he wanted to appraise the damage. He seemed surprised when someone answered the door. He was probably casing the place and trying to see what was there to steal.

Guarded the house all last night. Not one minute of sleep. The insurance guy is scheduled to stop by on Monday morning. So hopefully will get things moving. It may snow tomorrow. Screams.

My house received the most damage in the storm. Every news crew was here.

Thank you to all that have sent well wishes and prayers.

Worked on the inside since daylight.

Had to remove five inches of blown in insulation.

Then had to break the ceiling and cut the heating wires.

Then finally tried to recover what I could. Had lots of WWII cased medal sets and other medals sets crushed and water damaged. Some I just purchased and were delivered the night before that had survived in near perfect from 1944 and were gone the next morning.

May 1989 we got hit by what the weather service called a micro-burst, neighbors called it a tornado. Threw an 80 ft red oak all the way thru a 2 story w/ basement house. Wife, kids and self made it out with what we were wearing. Important part of what I said- WE MADE IT OUT.

As the folks have said- notify your insurance carrier at once. Anybody that wants to enter home for any reason either needs ID as a government employee (fire dept, building inspector), utility company employee, or YOUR insurance company.

Your insurance company can help with temporary living arrangements. Get a big manilla envelope- anything that you have to buy, put the receipt in the envelope. They will come in handy later.

Took 5 months for us to rebuild, clean up, replace stuff, move back in. Do not kill yourself trying to do everything yourself- insurance PAYS people to do that.
