Like many small towns that loose their heavy industries , economic misery soon follows. Around here, eastern nc ,we have seen the same things happen on a smaller scale . Places with one or two medium industries , such as sewing plants and the like closed in the late80s to the 90s . . Now the small towns whose lifeblood was the plants have dwindled down to nothing loosing population steadily .
The sad part is NY state is controlled by a super population of radical socialist DEMOCRATs on the far east coast with NYC as its nucleus. Despite the loss of revenue locally in Ilion, DEMOCRATs collectively are elated to see an "evil gun manufacturer" leave.
Was not all that long ago Governor D Paterson was ecstatic when Rush Limbaugh fled to Florida. Loss of revenue was from Rushes exit was not considered. Many others to include DJT have fled the state. NY is # 49 in the nation with poor business climate according to taxfoundation.org. NJ is the worst. NY is also #2 in the nation in people fleeing, CA is #1.
Gotta love how their own elected government kill the goose that lays golden eggs.
Thanks to Democrat Bill Clinton and his NAFTA program (North American Free Trade Act) , every small town with a garment factory lost them to Mexico where workers were paid pennies on the dollar for earnings and the factories were in every small town down South. Another big loss due to Democrats, people will never learn dammit. 😠

I hate to see the hardship for the employees but I hope the town falls flat on its face.
Any lost tax money will just be passed on the to the residents to pick up the lost revenue, double whammy.

NYC is the only area in New York that matters. The rest of the state is is exploited and abused to satisfy the demands of a globally influential but anti-American city. NYC won't even blink when 300 people in Ilion lose their jobs and a decrepit old factory remains. They have far more people than that sleeping on sidewalk outside Lady Liberty and decrepit old factories are a New York theme, crumbling reminders that outside of NYC, you're irrelevant.
Still, Remington bears a lot of the responsibility for the closure of the factory. They stuck around in an anti-2A state for far too long. Moving to Georgia is a good idea but it was a better idea 30 years ago. They sat on a reputation and brand recognition and didn't adapt. They got complacent and New York bullied them into oblivion. To move now is the act of a desperate company trying to salvage what little they have left.

I am convinced that you could run Charles Manson or even Adolph Hitler with a " D " in front of their name in many areas of NYS and they would get elected.

I am angered and disgusted that Remington was allowed to be sued after the Sandy Hook massacre.

Kevin, a very good summary of what has transpired. I was there when they wanted to draft Trump for Governor after the Safe (unsafe) Act of 2013 was passed. I listened with dismay when the Erie County Sheriff brought a half dozen Remington workers out on the stage so they could tell their story. It was a very humbling experience for me. They were not Remington big shots but hard working factory workers who were proud of what they had accomplished in previous decades. Many had to take their kids out of school, sell their homes, move to another state and be separated from their friends because Andrew Cuomo and his cronies ruled this state with a Iron Fist for three terms. He sent his cronies over to put up signs "No firearms allowed in this assembly area, this includes LEO" I can't repeat the Sheriffs words here for King Cuomo.
Remington waited too long to get out just as time has almost run out for me to return to my Native Virginia. 70% of the people in this state vote for Dummycrats. They always have and always will. When Remington closes the plant, there is toxic waste underground from many years of lubricants and industrial waste seeping into the ground.It will be interesting to see who pays for the clean-up

Seeing the same issue with both Firefox and chrome(google) can get to the general forum sometimes and not to the forums homepage at all. @montanajoe it is been happening sometime since yesterday evening best I can tell.

yep ray something is up, I can't get to the forums home from anywhere, GB auction side or anywhere else only can go to general discussion directly Admins of forum are aware but can only wait for HQ to hopefully fix.
There is another thread see "Anybody Else." The problem migrated into Foxfire also this afternoon. Could not get in to Forum and tried FireFox Private Browsing. Dumb luck it worked. Crossed my mind that there are lots of folks out there that do not like our "Words of Wisdom" Maybe Gunbroker got hacked. I mean after all Gov.
