Those Remington's turned my Ruger's Mark II and Mark III into nonfiring pretty clubs.
These two Ruger's are always very reliable. I'm sure part of this reliablity is the after market ejectors I put on them but an ejector needs to have the pistol to fire to work.
I was also shooting 2 10/22s. OMG!! Almost every one of those 10 shot mags for all four of these 22s would have at least one failure to fire.
All 22 LRs looked at after trying to fire them had strong firing pin marks so it wasn't my pistols/rifles that was the problem. A 10% failure to fire rate is a true first for me. Talk about something getting old quick!!
Anyone else having Remington 22 LR nonfiring issues??

I had issues with Remington ammo. Not quite as bad as you, though.
I switched to CCI Standard. No issues at all with CCI. It feeds, fires, and ejects from every 22 I have.

Yup, I've had numerous problems with Remington ammo. 22LR duds like you experienced, centerfire rounds that are too long for the chamber, reloaded brass that cracks at the mouth after only one or two reloads. I used to blame myself when there would be 1 or 2 wild fliers in a group until I realized it was only happening with Remington ammo.
I killed many a deer using Remington CorLokts. The old style with the lead tip. I tried for years to top the accuracy with my reloads. Speer Grand Slams with H4350 is the closest I can get.

Never had a failure rate like that before. That I’m sure would have been aggravating. I did have some federal ammunition once that seemed to have to much primer in them, it was more like they were detonating rather than igniting the powder. The back of the case would be rounded and deforming the rim and they wouldn’t extract properly. As far as Remington center fire brass I was having problems with splitting at the mouth after 2 or 3 reloads. The brass I was using was hard to come by so I ended up annealing the cases and that seemed to helped.
Kevin and I have the same experience with CCIs. When I'm just plinking I use the cheap stuff like these Remington's.
If I'm being serious, I use CCIs.
If I'm being REALLY serious I use Ely.
The part I find most irritating is the old Remington Goldens equaled Ely in accuracy and reliability in my highly modified 10/22.
A new barrel, a bunch of other after market parts and a Jim Clark Jr. VCR instruction video to show me what to do and I had a 10/22 that was way more accurate than I was!!
A VCR instructional video. I know we all remember VCRs, but thinking back a VCR now seems like ancient history.

I won't buy or shoot any Remington rimfire ammo (jammo). Just too many problems with it. CCI is my go-to RF ammo, I have enough of it to last a long time without needing to look for any other brand.
The other one that helped drive me to CCI was Aguila 22 ammo. Sticky, fumes smelled funny, and the brass wouldn't extract with any consistency. I gave about 150 rounds to a guy at the range last year. Told him "here...maybe you'll have better luck with it." I hope he did.
Yep...its CCI Standard all the way for me. Accurate, reliable, inexpensive. The trifecta of ammo.

I still have half a brick of old, old Remington standard velocity .22LR that is very accurate and reliable in my Rem bolt rifle. I'm guessing it's at least 50 years old. Came in a trade before I moved here 38 years ago. I've been pretty frugal shooting it because there's no replacing it today. Just when Remingtom ammo became Dudington jammo i cannot say, but it sure did.
I also have about a brick of the original Winchester Power Point from Australia that's absolutely deadly. Detonates ground squirrels out to 100 yards and shoots into dime-sized groups. I'm even more frugal with those. A real shame they stopped making or importing that.
I have used Ely before and consider it quality ammunition, very reliable and consistent, just not able to find it anymore around where I live. Last year I tried some of this Sellier & Bellot club ammo, it was kind of pricey I thought at $8 a box, but I was very impressed with it, I fact I went back a bought a brick that was the same lot number. I test new ammo out with my Anschutz model 164 I have had 40 years now, it’s an extremely accurate rifle. It is hard to beat CCI standard ammo but this Sellier & Bellot seemed to put be more accurate. I’ve got around 4000 rounds of the Aguila high speed that is the Ely primed that I find to work really well in my rifles, and I will say that it does have more of a cordite smell when using it. Now I’ve heard that the newer Aguila ammo is no longer advertised as Ely primed and not as good as when it first came out, I don’t know haven’t tried any of it.
Same issue as mentioned above by others. Stopped using Remington rimfire ammo several years ago after experiencing way too many duds and when one of my MKII basically locked up after a couple hundred rounds. CCI is my go to ammo in .22 rimfire. Never had any issues with it and I can only remember on dud. A Stinger in my G44 a few years ago. Tried to fire it twice and it failed to go off. Loaded it into a different firearm and it still did not go bang. So only one out of many thousand rounds over the last 10 plus years...
@Rocky Raab. I’ve got around 350 rounds left of the Winchester power point 42 Max that works extremely well in my Mauser ES 340-B that is scoped. I believe they had really good quality control in Australia when producing this ammunition.

I have zero issues with Remington 22 ammo. I stopped using it 20 years ago and never had an issue since.
Remington thunderbolts are the absolute worst ammo ever made.....thunderduds!!! They have bet 25-40% failure rate! I wouldnt buy them if they were $1 a box!
CCI mini mags are VERY good! I use CCI only for rimfire! No comparison in quality to thunderduds!
Fairly cheap and 100% reliable, function and accuracy!
It ain't just recently because I have about 1500 rds left of the bulk pack Golden Bullets left in the basement that I never seem to take to the range because they seem to have at least 10% misfires. They've been down there close to 25 years and may be there until the day I die. Like you guys, CCI is my go too brand but some others do a darn good job as well. @Kevin_L, you must have gotten a bad batch of Aguila because I find it just as good in most of my guns as the CCI. I think I posted this before but here is the first site in target and first 5 shot groups with my 10/22 build. Only 25 yards because the range was busy that day and that was the only bench available.
That gun likes Aguila but I wasn't displeased by any of the 4 groups. It even did o.k. with the Remington target which surprised me. Bob

The Remington thunder bolts i agre are teribe when ii shot them i expect a lot of duds
But plinking in the back yard not a big deal some years ago i stock piled 22 lr a lot of thrm asorted brands when finding any was like looking for hens teeth
Obvious the better brands like CCI are a lot better if I was going to trust my life or serious hunting it would be the cci
I have just adjusted to expecting poor preformancr out of a lot of the ammo I don't recall the 550 having many problems.
Now It's been a while since I have did a lot of 22 lr shooting So my memory may be off a little

Often, just re-seating the bad round so that the firing pin hits a different place on the rim will allow it to fire.
Getting the priming evenly distributed in the rim is a very difficult task. Some makers manage it a lot better than others.
Thunderbolts , wildcat , armscor etc while not top line are semi - ok for very casual blasting. I don't expect much from them so a few duds don't bother me . I stockpiled some back when I found them at very cheap prices. They will make trade goods at some point.
Remington Thunderbolt will not function at all in my Ruger Standard pistol. Currently just using them in my Ruger Wrangler and will not buy them. The brick I have was a gift and once they are gone I’ll be happy to not use them again.
Even if I could buy ammo without a background check I'd pass on Remington. I figure when they were going through the troubles and ammo shortage their QC were in the dumpster. So I figure not being able to without a background check saved me bucks and head ache.
I take the ones that won’t fire from my 10/22 or semi auto hand guns and then, run them through my single six.
Get about half to fire.
The rest go into the fire pit.It keeps me on my toes when I start a fire. 😉😆
Remington .22 ammo is great if you need to test a firing pin, but don't like the noise of live ammo.
