Hammer strut pin removal

I have a stainless steel Springfield Armory 1911. I need to change the hammer to install a beaver tail grip safety due to clearance issues. All was going very well until I was unable to remove the hammer strut pin. I beat the snot out of it from both sides busting punches, it will NOT MOVE.
Could I heat the old hammer to gain some clearance to get the pin out? I do not intend to ever use that hammer again. I did order a new hammer strut and pin so I can at least get the gun back up and running.

That don't sound right. Silly thing should practically fall out. Now me I'd call Springfield.
Since you're getting new bits I'd leave it be as a working spare.
you need
a. a very short pin punch (grind one for this)
b. a very solid surface to back up the hammer
Ballistol or Kroil
heat gun not flame
I got a new strut and pin, got the 1911 running fine now with zero hand bite from recoil. I will save the old hammer and strut assembly for a spare. The hammer could have been bobbed to let it work but I had two nice oval hammers available. Installing one of them made the job a lot easier.
How did you finally get it out?
I didn't, I kept it for a spare and ordered a new strut and pin. A couple of light taps with a brass hammer and the new parts went together slick as grease.
