Some truck repair- power door locks

Just thought I'd pass along some impressive savings.
Our 2008 4runner door locks had been on the fritz for some time.......irratic operation.
The stealership wanted $600 per door to replace the door lock actuator assemblies. Turns out that all that's needed is the replacement of the tiny dc motor inside each actuator housing.
$21.24 got me four motors to my front door(home), from ChinaBay. Some small tools, patience, and YouTube are all you need.
Many manufacturers use these types of actuators. Worth a try.......for a great savings.
As an aside.......I'm looking at a similar situation with the Evaporative Emissions Canister.......but don't think I can just replace the tiny vacuum pump motor.
Anyway.....hope this helps.

Dealers and many repair shops often go for the most expensive, most profitable to them, fix instead of the lowest cost repair. A few weeks ago I stopped going to a local repair shop here after they wanted $435 to replace the air filter housing on the Chevy Equinox. I said "NO Way" and for $1.50 I got four #12 screws from Ace Hardware to replace the #10s that had stripped the housing. The old housing fits and works great now.
Rockauto.com is your friend.
Good for you I have never taken any thing to shop unless warnity work
But for every one like us 2000 can't do it and have to rely on shops for the same work
And shop rates seem to Start at least 100.0 a hour if your lucky
Rock auto even amazon and flebay now have find to fit searches for most any car
Amazon Also has range of suppliers and prices
Amazon prime free shipping is a plus for me any way
I know its all chinesium but just about all of is any more
A lot of shops will only use original equipment supplied by the dealers' stil a chance of being bad amazing how many new out if box parts fail anymore but still favorable for a shop to avoid being blamed for bad parts
The quality sucks but a dollar a day labor you get what China gives you
Same with car body parts the body shops now have to slice dice spend hours getting a new panel to fit no such thing as exact fit
It's getting to the point DIY is a thing of the past
just watch a few videos of a problem where a bad tail light bulb or sensor can take out half the cars system with out thousands of dollars Test equipment were lost
Copy from above.
I know its all chinesium but just about all of is any more
I'm seeing MADE IN CHINA on lots of OEM USA made equipment now days. Depressing when I find a failed part just out of warranty and I see the made in China logo and I know the replacement part made in china has a high failure rate but it's life now days.
Vec's, appliance, etc.
Rockauto Amazon and the computer is your friend now days.
Brandon is not.
You could do open heart surgery with a youtube video.
My entrance door (inside of it) on my garage / pole barn is covered in the rockauto magnets and it was a long time before I even started keeping them .
Neat business cards they put out
but when I look at it I see $$$ spent but also all the money I have saved doing all the work myself
On the motor home the air horn stopped working. I checked it out and found the 12 volt solenoid had burned out. $12.00 part for a SS replacement, new fuse (that was tough to find in the 100s of 12 volt fuses in 4 locations) and I was good to go.
The exact replacement was $56.00 on Amazon (made of Brass). I will take SS over Brass any day.
A couple of hours of investigation I'm sure saved me thousands. A simple oil change on the motor home (engine and generator) costs $1,300.00.
Oh and they did a software update on the engine/transmission for an additional $250.00.

Local stealer ship charges 195.00, 475.00 to change actuator on one door.
I can work on ancient vehicles but this newfangled stuff, forget it.
I'll try to defend the mechanics from the other side of the wrench.
He has to be sure your vehicle is repaired right the first time. Cause if it's a come back, he's going to have to fix it again for free. And, you're going to be angry. Angrier than spending too much money. So he may make you buy better quality parts or any that are suspicious or likely to also fail soon.
At least, that's how I did it.
You are spot on
I have nothing against a mechanic to be a Good one the training and knolage needed is vast not to mention the cost of tools
The days of a couple wrenches are long gone use to be a 1/2 " and 9/16 ,wrench you could do 80% Of car repiars loll
The high-tech equipment and how to actually use it is s art form itself
I had a coworker once say you know working on cars like you do. is not too far out of line of what a doctor does
people only have so many parts you have to learn what and how to repair besides doctors burry their mistakes a mechnic gets his back lol
I know its a strech but a bit funny
Any shop worth it's place has lots of overhead building cost power cost insurance cost tool cost so of course they have to make money and still keep Good help
Example Even lawnmower shops get 75.0 to 100.00 a hour, maybe more maybe more so if you have a inexpensive power tool it cost less to pitch it and buy a new one
Just like any thing I am so glad I can up to now any way do all my own work no matter cars ,house, appliances, plumbing, electrical, power tools lawn equepmennt I would not test at the top of any Cass on any of them
but can do most all corectly
Not braging it came out of fix it or do with out nesity andbeing broke over rides a lot
If I had to use a shop I would defently do some research on them for customer feed back before opening my wallet
Yes, you see it correctly.
