This might start a firestorm, hopefully there will be reasoned out responses. It seems that there is a new semi-auto pistol coming out every month. I know, like our choice of blonde, brunette, or redhead, we all have our favorites brands, and as we are still a free, more or less, country right now, building the better mousetrap is the name of the game. I don't know how many collective groans rattle through the telepathic wavelengths that I have heard subconsciously when another maker of a 1911 clone appears on the magazine cover, but, when it comes down to form and function, could the real selection of semi-auto pistols available now be broken down into just a few that are just proven to be reliable, effective, and of simple ergonomics that are universal to all hands? If there is a perfect semi-auto that everyone should own, and after that one, any others are just frosting on the cake, what would it be? In my case, I have a Colt 1911 govt. model and a Beretta M9, another govt. model without all the instructions on the slide, after those 2, several other models from other companies for the 'frosting'.

Evey one wants a piece of the pie

I lost track years ago of the latest greatest reinventing of the wheel

I guess find the one that fits reliable and you like

I only have a few pistols I would to have a when funbut such is life

But they do all I need or basically just sit in the safe 99.999% of the time but go bang if needed

So many nitch markets to fill I guess what keeps them coming out

If you purposefully leave out Glock pistols from this discussion are you doing more than trolling?

In any case, there are purposes aplenty that neither of those two pistols you mentioned are well suited to, regardless of whether they are deemed to be enough because they happen to fit into a lot of hands.🙄

Not even JJ Recazza can shoot a 92 fast.
His deal with Beretta effectively ended his career & I say that as someone who loves the guy.

This has been hashed and re-hashed. I see no reason to continue.
