[Giveaway] Modernized/Tactical/Etc. SKS Add-Ons Looking for New Home

Original title: Am I allowed to make a thread on something I'm just giving away?

Original post: I know we can't make "want ads" or "for sale ads" here but uh, can we make posts here about things you're willing to just give away to a good home?

Basically, I bought a refurbished SKS and got the brilliant idea to "modernize" it with a bunch of rails and polymer parts and once it was done… I hated it. Yes, it took me until seeing it all assembled to decide this was a bad idea. Thankfully I still have the original bayonets and furniture and such so I'm currently re-assembling it back to its former glory.

Now I've got a bunch of tacticool components just lying around, taking up space. However, due to some… required modifications performed on these… I can't put these up for sale in good conscience due to dings, drillings and such. They're still serviceable parts though, and I'd feel awful about tossing them out.

So, am I allowed to just make a thread on something I'd like to just give away? And if so, know anyone who'd like to be the new owner of a bunch of modern SKS parts? They would have to pay shipping, though. My charity has its limits.

EDIT: Okay, so I guess this thread is a giveaway thread now! Below are the parts I'm giving away. The grooves carved into the pistol stock were done to make the dust cover picatinny adapter fit, among other alterations to get these parts to cooperate with one another. This whole set* is being given away to whoever wants it the most, and is willing to pay the shipping for it. Note that I live in PR and am only shipping to the 48 mainland US states plus Alaska and Hawaii. Shipping should be like… $30? Something along those lines, I believe.

*Note: Debating whether I want to give away the rail dust cover and 20-round magazine, please assume the availability of these 2 items is variable right now.

So! Just post here to enter, and I'll pick whoever I think could use these the most. I might give it a week (ending April 9) or just a few days depending on how many people enter. Assuming anyone DOES enter. Good luck!

Yep, post up a "Giveaway". Most people make up tags with the entrant's name, and draw a name out of the hat after week or so. However long you want to run it. If you have multiple items you can give them away by the each or the whole lot. Your giveaway, your rules.

Alright, this thread is now a giveaway thread! Original post has been updated with new information.

By the way, this is how the SKS looks like when all the parts are put together (sans the scope):

Turns out I really did not like this look, so I've since put it back together the way it was handed to me, minus some cosmoline and other assorted gunk that came with the previous owner:

Yes, it has a mosin-nagant scope mount on it. The previous owner did a good job at restoring it (but missed a few spots) and decided to mount that on the side of it when it was all done.

I agree with your assessment. Looks much better in the original configuration. I have a SKS but I’ll pass. Good luck to the others interested.

Nice giveaway. No need to enter me.

    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche

Update after some range time today: the chosen person gets the 20-rounder for themselves but I'm keeping the dust cover picatinny rail. Quote-replying to you in particular since you're the only one to pitch a name in the hat and you even posted a good reason to pick you.

I'm keeping the thread running until the 9th (against my better assessment) to maybe hear a second person out but it really does look like you've got this locked in @Ditch-Runner . I'll start putting everything in a box, now. I hope pistol-grip rifles and 20-round capacity mags are legal in your state.

Gave it the day to see if anyone else would toss their name in, but in hindsight it was really painfully obvious this was going to go to you. Got home from work and am now in a position to sort everything out, posting this in advance so you don't feel like I'm ghosting you or anything. Will check the inability to receive messages out now, among other things.

All wrapped up and good to go. There are some things I need you to be aware of, though:

    • Parts are being given as-is, may be some bells and whistles missing but I did my best to retain all original components.
    • As mentioned before, the stock has gaps drilled into it that were to accomodate the dust cover rail, which is the only item from the original post not included here.
    • The gas tube NEEDS to be filed down from within if your gas piston does not end up sliding smoothly inside!
    • Shipping this box from PR to Ohio may be between $30 to $50, please be prepared for that kind of rate.

The sort of "jury rigged" adjustments needed to get these parts to try and cooperate with my SKS meant that it felt wrong to try and sell these, as they are, to someone but everything is solid and should cooperate with your son's SKS. Hopefully.

Alright, it's been shipped. I included a little thank you card within the box, please post a pic of it once it arrives on the 15th to confirm that it got to you.

Shipping ended up being $46.30 and I was able to somehow pick USPS Ground Express despite living on an island. Here's hoping it gets there safely and quickly.
