Took a short ride yesterday and snapped a pic of ‘Chester’s’ (Dennis Weaver) earthship home. Rammed earth in old tires stacked in stair step fashion comprised a large portion of the home.
Year's past I spent a week with him at an alternate home building seminar. Had lunch each day and discussed everything from adobe, straw bail to rammed earth to cordwood construction.
He was a nice gentleman and ‘very passionate’ about the environment. He contributed a lot to the community.
,Here’s the view from his house ,,,,,,, not to shabby. That’s the San Juan Mountains.

I always liked Dennis Weaver. Been a big fan of Gunsmoke my whole life. Very COOL forge!!
I remember reading about the 'Earthship' at some point in time. Maybe when it was being built…
I like his lawn ornament!
Pic. two is just fantastic. Wake up to that would be a treat.
"He was a nice gentleman and ‘very passionate’ about the environment."
Yet he blighted a very nice looking area with his futuristic homestead?
That’s the second time you’ve pontificated about building a home in a particular area, that you deemed unsuitable because of the view, or disturbance of the ground.
Unless you live in a natural cave without running water, sewer, gas or electrical, etc. Which all disturb the ground or view you are no less a “hypocrite” than those you bloviate about !!
The other night.....I watched Mr Weaver in an episode of The Twilight Zone.
It reminded me of the fact that.…in his prime...."Chester" was one hell of an athlete.
yeah ,,,,, wasn’t he a high jumper for Oklahoma University ??
IIRC......he placed 9th in the decathlon at the USA Olympic trials.
I'm too lazy to wikisocialist it.......😎
Check out u-tube and do a search, there's a big handfull of videos of him building his house out of discarded items, very neat 👍️

to be a “* “ every episode on gunsmoke and never see him break character, even on horse back is in itself amazing.
Reason he was, was to not over shadow James Arness as they were about the same height. As I’ve read.
good lord, handicap I guess.
A favored movie I really enjoy watching every now and then is "Duel" starring Dennis Weaver. If you've never seen it, you should!

And I will continue to voice MY OPINION about this touchy subject simply because IT IS TRUE.
Farmland, grazing land, even just 'nice to look at' land that's covered by housing is land lost forever to production(or possible production). In a world of overwhelming population growth, losing productive or potentially productive land just so someone with a butt load of money can have a scenic view, is sinful.
A house out of old tires? I’ll bet that smells nice on a hot summer day! Probably not real healthy either. But……VERY interesting!
I always thought I should make a house out of sand-filled Mountain Dew bottles. I’ve darn sure drank enough of them to build a castle! Now….. if they’d just make them in a stackable shape.
Here is the "Bottle House" which is now a museum located in the small town of Kaleva Michigan.
I helped a guy build a house with hay bales.
Mr. Ed???????

from the above picture, looking at that rocky hillside, I don't think you could even graze one cow a year on the ground that house sets on,
Me and a neighbor girl did that one summer in the loft of our barn when I was 15, got to admit it was one fine house and real cozy but it got really hot in there…….😀

Exactly ,,,,,, not only a rocky hill but very, very steep, but some people just have to condemn, criticize and complain about someone building a house ,,,,,, and not a peep about the seller or real estate agent.
Many rancher and farmer friends of mine build very nice homes with great views on tillable ground or mountain pasture.
Maybe you don't consider wild game habitat as essential, either?
It’s none of your business what I consider about habitat. Although, the RMEF, Pheasants Forever, and NWTF enjoy my donations each year.
