headed south monday......
been golfing with a couple of guys I grew up with and went to high school with. two of them I haven't seen since high school, they got hold of me few months back and we have been golfing a time or two a week weather permitting, I am on two blood thinners and 50 degrees is about my cutoff. They decided to head south for a few days down around winston salem next week, looks like the weather will be in the 80's, so I figured to tag along. I doubt we get into the things we did in high school, my body won't take it any more, the drinking or the stupid things we got away with, but the stories and the memories still make me laugh, I am just along for the ride or I would ask any you all down that way to get in touch, Ricci is the only one I have met in person but he is farther south in wilmington, looking forward to the sun and warm weather…….

have fun!
Cool, have a great time.
Be careful . Traffic in Winston is bad. Speed limits are not even a suggestion to those folks . they are all would be nascar racers
…and be careful around Fancy Gap. When the fog rolls in you literally can't see past your front bumper.

I remember that from when I was driving home from Camp Lejeune, years ago……..
What routes are you taking?
I'm not driving Jim, just along for the ride, but going down 77 then I think over to mount airy area to play pilot mountian on monday, then on it to winston salem area to play tuesday, wednsday, and thursday, if I remember right from my Lejeune days it is rt40? to winston salem…..
I-77 to I-74 to route 52 to Winston Salem proper. I drove that route hundreds of times when I lived in North Carolina.

you ever go old rt52 over the mountain, there used to be a gift shop with big waterwheel at bottom of mountain, they had goat and bunch of old cars the goats had stripped to bare metal…….
Yep. I dont recall the name of the place but I know exactly what you're talking about.
Old route 52 was my scenic route sometimes. Other times it was my 'hang on to your hat' route. 😁

Rt 52 was a pretty good ride on my motorcycle back in my mountain running days .((lifelong nc resident).
Drop off at Hillsville exit and run 52 all the way to Winston Salem, Make a quick stop at Mayberry and see some of Andy Griffin history. Less hustle bussel for traffic and views are much better.
