So I bought 15 pound slab of cod.

The local shop had a sale on "true" cod at $5.99 a pound. A good deal.
I popped the package open to see the silly thing is in one block of fish. In the past when I bought it, it was individually frozen but they never had a full box. Since I caught the sale early in the week I thought score when they said they had boxes of it.
Now I have to find my switch a blade Kershaw kitchen knife kit with a wood saw blade. I should've known something was up when the box seemed kind a flat.

We bought some for the same price at WinCo last summer. They were individual fillets though.
Reminds me of that scene from The Godfather. Luca Brazzi sleeps with the fishes.

Just dust off your Sawzall yosh and cut that block into serving size pieces. Wrap em up and put em in the freezer. I know they will fall apart when you cook them but hey, most of those frozen coated ones are minced up anyway. 😁
Makes me laugh when I see 5.99 a pound. I used to work on fishing boats in RI in the 60’s. We would get big Cod 50-60 lbs. that no one wanted. I would bring them to the local fish market and get 5 cents per pound.
Rare fish to be one fillet that size these days
Brookwood - That's an idea but I have to buy a new blade. Lawd only knows what flavor the blade I have will impart. I think I'll look for a Stainless blade that's not painted for my Makita.
Take it back to the shop where you bought it, ask them to cut it up for you. Im sure they will, then you dont have to worry about the flavor iout Maikta will impart either!
sorry I just have to get it out
I hope your talking about fish and not the" midlevel cod piece "🤐
mike55 - Rather do it at home. Gawd only knows what's on their band saw. Besides I found the Kershaw.
Ditch-Runner - 15 pound slab of cod piece? Yeah that'll make me walk funny(ier?).
I decided to saw in to the block of cod later today. Going with a hand saw attachment for the Kershaw kitchen knife kit.
I think I'll poach it or steam it. Deep fat frying gets messy so that's why I was thinking of the first two. But who knows? I figure I'll cut the thing in to thirds so frying may not be out of the question.
Had to whip out the Jorgensen clamp (I wasn't gonna fight the silly brick of fish). The pet fish got the cod kerf and I'll have the steamed cod Thai/Vietnamese style. That's with fish sauce, a bit of ginger, green onion and cilantro. Looking forward to it.
