Learnt a new way to do pinto beans.
I usually just soak the beans over night with baking soda but I wanted to eat it that day. So I was looking over the bag and it mentioned to boil the beans in a pot of water for 2 minuets and let it sit for an hour. So I tried that and it worked out pretty good. I boned out a ham and threw the bone in a pot of water to flavor the water.
Now I don't know if I was "supposed" to save the beanie water but I drained it and cooked it in the ham bone water. Had some left over roasted salsa about 2 to 3 cups of it I added it with a bit of garlic. Kind a wished I had some pork butt juice from a week before to add to the beans. All in all it came out pretty good. Had some left over shredded Mexican cheese mix and tortillas. Also some given cow meat that a friend grew on their patch I cooked up carne asada with some left over taco seasoning. I was afraid the cow would be "grassy" but it wasn't so that worked out pretty good.

I have heard if you soak beans in baking soda or add baking soda when cooking, it prevents people from farting. Beans are not beans if they dont make you fart.
As a kid my mom would ad a bit of baking soda to bingo orsoupbeans as they are know tous
To take away the gas effect
My wife also from a southeren family just slow cooks them most of the day and adds in ham pieces and or the bone from a ham to add more flavor
We like to toss in a jalapeno or two.
I like to add a shot of apple cider vinegar to my bowl of ready to eat beans or bowl of bean soup. I developed the taste when I was young, as my mom did this. Not only did it taste good to me but also kept the farts away!
I do this by the bowl and not by the whole batch. Others may not care for it. Do the same with chili seasonings.
Just baked a Hamann food sealed and froze the ham bone and parts for later fot the bean pot
