Frequently driven on the weekends . . . a rather short distance at a rather quick speed with a really weird traffic light and some other guy right beside me.
I have pics - somewhere - but it would be tough to get them out, scan them, and upload to the internet.
1976 Chevy Stepside Chevy. It was 3 years old and the front fenders wwere starting to rust out. I coached Little League baseball and would load the team up and travel across the county to away games.
and a one year old 1978 King cobra mustang I had bought about a year earlier bought it a few weeks after meeting my future wife ( who is still with me amazing enough )
just like this one
a bit of a dog with a smog 302 and 4 speed at the time but it got attention big time
sad all show no go 😣
6k window sticker and they would not budge
and besides I had my BB chevy 69 camaro for fun and fast
I recently read only 5k of these were made
and yes street racing and cruising were huge part of my life I do miss.
will also add over time I owned a lot of the same model of cars every one posted
pony cars muscle cars were my favorite with a few cruisers tossed in like a ltd ll Mont carlo tbird and similar I just loved all cars
have as story about some olds cars and a old GF from almost 50 yrs ago I looked up a few months ago . it is story in its self trust me ) I will share at some point I knew she had some photos of my cars and us .
In '79 I had a '75 Chevy half ton short box, black with red/silver racing stripes on the hood with a 350 four barrel. Got about 8/10 mpg but I had my foot in it a lot. Also had a '78 Honda CM400T. It threw a rod a few years later at 8000 miles and I gave it to a friend.
Had the Chevy until '82 when I traded it on a new Ford F-150 4x4 4-speed, inline six 300.
I remember the VW Scirocco. I had a VW 411 before the Matador. I think IMMIC it was a 71 model. It had lots of room in it and the up front trunk was kind of cool.
I wanted one of those VW Scirocco but ended up with a VW Rabbit. I had one like this, but it was the fancier LS model. It got around 36mpg and always wished it was a diesel. It was not a very good car as I took good care of it and around 85000 miles it was about shot.
The VW Bug and the VW van had the same engine in 1971, 1600 cc air cooled. The bug was a little car and somewhat aerodynamically shaped, designed by Herr Porsche in 1935 under orders of Hitler. My brother bought one new, and put 120,000 miles on it before the engine blew.
However, the VW van had the same engine. The van had all the aerodynamics of a concrete block, and was quite big, you could put lots of cargo, or people in the van. It was too much strain on the engine. Even with constant maintenance you weren't going to get 30,000 miles on the van before the engine blew.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
There were a bunch of those, especially that color. 345 V8, 2 barrel Holley carb 4+2 transmission (well 4speed transmission, 2 speed rear end.) Our's had a fold-up cattle rack. I hauled a lot of cattle and hogs with that thing. It kept Dad going during the farm crisis of the 80's.
My '68 van got an engine rebuild in the living room of a friend. We did his and mine at the same time. Mechanical advance distributor, 2 barrel Holly Bug Spray carb, over sized oil pan, oil filter, second oil cooler, extractor exhaust. It would cruise at 75 (not legal at the time) and sounded like a Porche. A

If you were driving an Electra 225 today you would not have to fear a crash with another car of today. In fact you might just think you ran over an empty beer can on the road.
I almost forgot. Besides having a 1974 Monte Carlo, I also had a HD Sportster. Does that count as well?

'71 Plymouth Cuda.

Yes, I still wish I had it.
almost like Austin's a 1969 Torino Maroon with black vinyl top with a warmed up 302 identical to this one without the hood
I wish I had a pic but I don't. 1979 Camaro Z28. Bright silver with red/orange stripes and dark carmine interior.

Aaaah, the 70's! We were heavily into BMX, so this was my racebike and my daily driver.
My new 1979 yellow f150 the price was to right and fell into my lap
1977 Chevy 3/4 ton 4WD pickup and 1970 Chevelle
It would appear that Ford is dominating this thread! First on race day!
My College car until gas doubled….. This one was not mine, but it was exactly like this one. 1972 Thunderbird. 429 V-8
Before the end of the year, I switched over to a 1975 VW Scirocco ..Also not mine, but exactly like this one
It was quite a change, but I went from 11 MPH to 29MPH !
Somewhere along that time I bought a 1973 Lincoln Mk IV for $600. It got about 10 mpg but it got it in STYLE!

1972 Ford Pinto and a 1968 Ford 1/2 ton pickup w/6 cyl. (I think they were called F100 then).
In 1979 I was driving my red '73 Trans-Am 455SD....….traded-in my first car, a red '68 GTO, to get it.
Bought them both new..........wish I had them BOTH back!!😫
My '92 3000GT-VR4 is sitting in the garage with clutch and A/C issues........sigh.🙁
1976 Chevy K-10 log bed.
Maybe around 1985 I bought the same from a women bartender in the local VFW. Same on gas ,great ride.
In 79 I had a 67 442 ragtop and a 68 Olds DELMONT 88 just like The Swimmer Ted.
Thanks for that pic Montana. That is what it looked like.
VW bug. Now (and for sometime) deceased.
1976 Ford E-150 van. I built up the interior for camping. We camped all over the northeast US and as far away as Canada. I still miss that van.
Joe
I turned 14 in 1979 so I didn't have a license. I did drive these a lot. (Not these exact tractors or truck but same models.)

Wow! What are the odds he has a picture of your uncles truck! Don

76 Electra 225 - no where near that clean. It was a retired fleet car my Dad picked up. Super-smogger 455 ci motor - slowest big-block on the planet.
that’s a proper land yacht right there!
"...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." 🍺 🇺🇲 🍔
It was a bigg'un! I had a friend who was regularly displaced from his home in HS and he crashed in the back often.
Low. Which is why I remarked on it.

Hell yes - that's a real young person's way of getting around.
Moms 1969 Electra limited 225 had the biggest backseat of any car I ever drove. Worked well at the drive ins .
Some of you fellas had some awful nice cars!
