Golden Corral

drobsdrobs Member Posts: 22,620 ✭✭✭✭

Driving home from Florida last week, we had dinner at a Golden Corral in Montgomery Alabama. My 1st time ever eating at a GC.

There still an old Shoney's in Branson, but everything was dried out and tasteless last time I went there.

I was impressed with Golden Corral the food was fresh! The fried chicken was juicy and I even got a steak cooked to order - rare! Lots of dessert choices. Friendly staff and a fair price.

We were seated towards the back of the restaurant near a window. As we were getting up to leave, I looked out and watched 20 something black kid adjust a Glock in his waistband before walking inside. I noted he was holding his Girlfriend's hand and smiling when we passed him on the way out.

I thought to myself, I wonder if he has a CCW license? Then looked it up, Alabama has Constitutional Carry. No permit required.

Last time I ate at a GC was so unlike your experience, it was the last time I will ever eat at one.

No CC here, license required. Your milage may vary.

some years ago before my parents passed away

they ate their often . I know the place made money off them they ate like small birds

my wife and I went a few times it was OK I cant say I will not go back but nothing to really pull me there either

I just have a distrust on all you can eat and the unwatched kids are playing in the food

not they could do any thing to it that has not already been done or I have eaten before just getting older I tend to be more " get off my lawn "

wife likes Chinese food local places the same all you can eat .

she always worry's I do not like it, so I have to say lets go don't worry

I tell her they have chicken cooked at least 23 different ways I can always find enough chicken to eat

    when we go

It's hard to beat GC here!! Chick fil a is next door, McDonald's across the street. So you can get chicken/fries/drink for $10.50, if you go to GC between 1 and 4 (with senior discount) it's $11.99 you eat what you want-how much you want-and lots of free dessert!! No brainer!! And there is an app for rewards!! I've turned all my friends on to it!!! Just saying!!

To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go out into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness, how cheap, how cowardly, how pathetic. Ted Nugent.

Some are better than others. The one in Mt. AIRY, NC is clean and the food is fresh. The salad/fruit bar is great.its just off I-77

Stopped going to Golden Corral after getting food poisonings in two different states (Colorado Springs and Bose Idaho).

I enjoy ours. My wife not so much. Although the last time I took her, she did say it seemed much better than usual. Her complaint is that everything is so bland, just tasteless. Well, they (like most restaurants) do cook that way.

I end up getting almost the same things there every time. But they're the things I like and don't cook for myself, so why not?

As to the habits of the other clientele, our nickname for GC is "The Trough." That says it all.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Only time in my life that I got food poisoning was eating at GC one night in Rapid City, SD. I had been to the rally and the next morning I was headed to see the Crazy Horse monument. I got there mid afternoon and was really disappointed as I had been there 10 years earlier. I checked in to a nearby hotel, had a couple of beers at a little bar, and called it a night. I woke up at midnight and spent most of the next 11 hours in the bathroom. I had to get out or pay for another night so I left. I got about 15 miles and just pulled into a parking lot and tried to sleep. I had to be in G.I., NE that night to visit friends and check into my motel. I started feeling better little at a time and made it. That's the sickest I've ever been. Funny thing, the little girl that took my money at GC asked if I'd ever been to one when I said no she said "Once you go golden you'll never go back" meaning to other restaurants. She was correct, I'll never go back to GC.

Ah yes, the golden dumpster. I completely agree with He Dog, probably the nastiest place I've ever eaten.

Kids sticking their fingers into the "chocolate" fountain, grabbing food with their hands, stinky carpet, it's just a tacky place.

We felt like we needed a shower when we left and we didn't even eat after we looked around at it.

Sort of an indoor dumpster dive.

Never real cared much for buffets but have been to many at the behest of co-workers, usually for lunch, I trust a cook to order place a little more, but the risk of food poisoning can happen even at high dollar places I found that out at an upscale Chinese place in Chicago.. As for the young man and his girlfriend maybe he was thinking about the OK corral in stead of the Golden….

Ruger4me, more people have been killed at the Golden Corral that at the OK Corral. :)

Concerning "The Trough"… The manager at a Chinese buffet near here once told my buddy that he already had all he could eat.😂

Golden Corral closed the only somewhat close place several years ago. I was in one about 150 miles away while on a work trip 2-3 years back. I was the only white guy in the place and got a lot of indignant looks as if I was an intruder. Food was OK, not great but at least I could pick what I wanted and leave the under/over cooked on the plate.

Golden Corral wasn't that the joint the pops from "Fresh Off The Boat" ran?
