Something to keep in mind for the UTV owners. I know it will stay in my mind when trail riding.

One of the people in our trail riding group had a similar incident happen. Riding an ATV a limb kicked up and went through the front left fender, just missed his leg and went through the rear fender.

No injury, chain saw and another ATV with a strap, to pull the limb out.

    Be careful out there!

Ouch!! The darnedest things can happen. Knew a fella that had a similar incident on a logging operation years ago.

Most machines have a steel floor plate. Branches can and will puncture plastic. Really good machines have a front steel plate.

    Apparently not this one though.

Mine are plastic, but will be getting some new armor.

One of my coworkers has an older Kawasaki and he's had a branch come through the floor. Scary stuff.

DAMN!!! At least he wasn't alone otherwise it would've been difficult to take a selfie.

Also a reason to carry a folding saw or a plug in sawzall.

In the backcountry of Idaho, you are a fool to travel without a chainsaw.

Paved roads, forest service roads, and trails are subject to fallen timber.

Since the forest service is not maintaining the forest, fires are taking the timber. Dead trees will fall. Limbs on the ground can jump up and penetrate the plastic on any machine.

That can't have missed his femoral artery by very much. As painful as I'm sure that is, he's a lucky boy.

They taught us in Paramedic school, "Never remove an impaled object."

NeoBlackdog you nailed it. The femoral runs down the inside of the thigh, it is the size of your forefinger. If that stick had poked the femoral, forget the ambulance, call a hearse.

I seen a ATV run over a bent crooked limb about size of a axe handle and it popped the ridder behind the driver across the head in front of the ear at temple area. Knocked him out and eye swelled and turned black. He got Ok in couple days, but was a close call.

We thought maybe the club may not have been curved until it rapped across his redneck head.

Could you imagine the pain caused by vibration from a sawzall?

Rambo would have just pulled it out and touched off a bit of gun powder to stop the bleeding.

Another thing one could do when encountering debris strewn ground is not go 700 miles an hour…..

  • NeoBlackdogNeoBlackdog Member Posts: 17,179 ✭✭✭✭

    What fun is that?

There's an OHV trail a ways from our house and most of the riders are pretty respectful when they get on the main (gravel) road that's about 500 yards from the house. A few try to set a new land speed record on a 1/4 mile straight away. I never seem to wish them well as I watch them blaze past…
