My cassette tapes are dying.

yoshmysteryoshmyster Member Posts: 21,858 ✭✭✭✭

Changed out the selections of cassette tapes and I came across The Return Of Bruno plays like it's on slo-mo ("Dredd" reference). Who is Bruno you ask? Alt-persona of Bruce Willis as a singer/mouth harpist. So I'm thinking my precious cassette tapes are doomed. Some replaceable and others may not be. Now I have to start keeping a list of dying cassette tapes to replace with CDs.

Mo' money.

I have several I recorded in my college days. Well maintained tape decks make a difference in how long the tapes survive..

Lucky4597  - I blame Colombia House. Those get 20 for a penny got me good. Besides hipsters and "Guardians Of the Galaxy" made Cassettes cool again.

papernicker - I remember seeing those CD/DVD drive looking thing you put on your tower to convert cassette to WAV/MP3 like 15/20 years ago. I wonder if they still have those laying around? I guess it's time to invest in one of those things.

Right around the turn of the 21st century I was a big fan of NAPSTER, the online music sharing service. I had uploaded a few thousand songs and put them all on discs which I play often on my MP3 playing Getto Blaster.

I still have a drawer full of old cassettes down in the basement. Haven't tried listening to them since I traded in my '89 Chevy van in for an '03 Dodge Durango. The built in players went from cassette to discs in the interim.

I used free thing called audio grabber not sure if still on Net but worked well. Just run a line out of cassette player into puter and follow steps.

Maybe this is just nature's way of saying, "Don't listen to Bruce Willis albums anymore." 😉

have you tried changing the batteries?????????

papernicker - I got Audio Grabber but all it did (at least on mine) was put down the tracks for the CD so I didn't have to type in all the band, title and track list for the cd to be converted to MP3.

tomh. - You hush. Bruno will out live dub step.

hillbille - Change the batteries? The tape deck is in my Caprice. A few years ago I picked up a used deck that's the same model to the one I have. I'm currently using the deck face since my old one went black. The backlight for the display died and pretty much all the display lights did too. Not ready to go into the replacement deck for the cleaning but it's day is a coming.
