Neighbors dogs.....idiot dog owner driving me NUTS

Locust ForkLocust Fork Member Posts: 31,994 ✭✭✭✭

We don't have a lot of neighbors, but the ones closest to us are the worst. They have decided to put as many small dwellings on their tiny bit of land and only let people with an IQ lower than 50 live there. I don't see their place unless I'm at the end of our driveway. I get to see their dogs daily though. I can't stand these people. The youngest is around 35 and has custody of his 9 year old (poor girl) and he LOVES to have a dog. Over the years he's had dozens of dogs and I'll see a post about how his dog is "missing" and can people please let him know if anyone sees it. Then, out of nowhere he has NEW dogs……no fence……of course.

I finally told him I don't want to see his dogs over here again and if it keeps happening we were going to take them to the pound. He said I should "shoot a gun in the air"…..yep….he's that stupid. I told him ALL the reasons that was stupid, one of them being that we have feral barn cats we are trying to keep around….along with the major stupidity of shooting guns into the air in general being one of the dumbest things you can do. He replies that the dogs just want to PLAY with the cats. I swear yall…..every time I think that "stupid" has its limits someone comes along to prove me wrong.

Why do people who live out in the country think that dogs should be left to roam free? irresponsible dog owners are the WORST. They get hit by cars…..tear up neighbors property…..multiply like crazy…..suffer from ever disease, ticks, fleas. Why on earth would anyone think they are "rescuing" a dog if they don't take 100% responsibility for that dog 100% of the time.

Yep Kasey, I discovered long ago stupid has no limits. Like you, when you think you have seen the limits of stupidity, along comes some guy and ups the ante….

Neighbors letting their dogs run wild are some of the worst neighbors one can have. If they are that irresponsible with their pets, they are irresponsible with the rest of their life too.

while I agreewith you 100% percent Kasey about the dogs and the owner. you did say one thing I don't agree with whick is we have feral cats we are trying to keep around. Those wandering cats will do as much damage or more to the local habitat/wildlife as his dogs. I am sure they are at his place also.

We had a chipmunk explosion here….they were running everywhere. They dug out the dirt from under the cement slab that holds up our fireplace/chimney. They ate into the ductwork under our house. It cost THOUSANDS to fix what all they did. We weren't fond of cats that stayed around here because they always seemed to want to sleep on the convertible tops of the cars. Since we have no convertibles here anymore that isn't an issue…..so we stopped running off the cats that came around and even started putting out some food for them in the morning. I do NOT see any chipmunks any longer…..which is a BLESSING, so I adore those cats.

I agree, dogs AND cats should be limited to their yards. People want dogs kept inside a structure, but think its perfectly fine to let cats roam however and wherever they want. If its good for the goose, then its good for the gander!

Neighbors cats(before I moved), damaged my vehicles and plants and anything else they wanted(including killing my chickens!) Nothing worse than a cat spraying everything, and NOT owning said cat!

We live in the city, we have a different problem. People who walk their dog on retractable leashes while they're staring at their phone. They let the dog poop anywhere and ignore their bad behaviour. Some people shouldn't have dogs or children.

I have a completely fenced back yard (about 2 acres), 5 local dogs have dug under the fence and killed one of our cats. I came outside and followed the dogs back to where they lived. This is the third time they have been inside our yard. I told the dog owners the dogs would not live if they came back.

So far it has been a week and they have not been back, but I know they will be back.

One of my old neighbors had a pit bull, that loved nothing more than to hurdle their 6 foot fence, and run around snapping at people.

The last time I dealt with it, I was just coming home from a drive up in the woods, so naturally I had my .357 on my hip. I no sooner get out of the truck, and here he comes, puffed up, showing his teeth, and lunging at me. I was about halfway between the truck and the front door of the house.

Flipped the snap on the holster, and had just started to draw down on it, when the owner came running up yelling "DON'T SHOOT! HE'S NOT A BAD DOG!" Uh huh.

Aggressive dogs do nothing for me, and I don't tolerate them. I chewed the man up one side and down the other, and told him that if it happened again, he was cleaning up the mess, and the dog wouldn't be a problem any longer.

Fast forward a few months, and they had moved south of town, out of city limits, where the dog got aggressive with another neighbor, and they proceeded to give it a 00 buckshot enema.

The day I purchased my current home in the country I asked a fence company and told them that I wanted 1/2+ acre fenced back yard. They staked the area and I gave them a deposit. The day I took possession the were here constructing the fence before I showed up with my first load of furniture from my old Indy house. They sunk all the posts in concrete on day one and finished the job the next day. I only had to take my two Bullmastiffs out on a leash for 1 1/2 days. No dog of mine ever ran loose.

It's too late for me, save yourself.

My brother has a problem with a neighbor cat….it came into his garage and sprayed around….it smells HORRIBLE over there. He bought some stuff that is supposed to get rid of the problem, but he has a HUGE basement and nobody knows where all this cat sprayed. So he just keeps spraying and spraying the "de-smell" stuff in hopes to fix the problem. He is NOT happy. We didn't like cats because we do a LOT to feed the birds here….which is probably why we had the chipmunk problem…..seeds everywhere.

We didn't have a fence at first. Where we used to live we were in the middle of 100 acres. When we moved our dogs were pretty well trained and didn't roam….they would go outside, do their business, lay in the sun, but then come back in. They were constantly loading up to go to grandma's house or the groomer. So, we didn't worry about it…….THEN…..a neighbor from down the road who was out taking a walk had an Irish Setter that followed her, he made his way over to our house. It was a blood bath on the back porch. Her 100 lb dog tore up our Pomeranian really bad. We didn't think he was going to make it. The neighbor felt horrible. I told her it was our Pom's fault…..he ran out the back door and acted like he wanted a fight….and got one. I also had someone stop and try to steal our Golden Retriever (he was gorgeous.) So, a $5,000 fence was put up soonafter.

When loafering free roaming dogs are on my property uninvited they are trespassing. I have signs up that says, no trespassing, private property.

I do not bother trying to find the dogs owners because I've found that usually it just makes people mad at me if I ask them to take care of their animals and if anything ever happens to their animal after I have talked to the dogs owner they are going to get mad and blame me for things someone else has done later.

People that don't even try to be responsible and try to take care of their animals should not have animals.

agree with the original post but just have to add for every dog running loose there are probably 1000 cats running loose.

I have realized property damage from neighbors pet cats as well as feral cats.

A few years ago university of Wisconsin published a study attributing declines in birds populations to cats. Causing a ripple effect on the rest of wildlife.

Cats need to be kept locked up moreso than dogs and we should have a dedicated effort to eliminate feral cats.
