Word Of Advice For Buyers: Keep Your Profile Up To Date And Accurate
I don't remember stuff anymore. If it ain't written down, it didn't happen.
Auction ended, gun sold. YAY!
Buyer contacted me, stated that the FFL in his profile is not the one he wants to use for this transfer. (So, why is that FFL on your order page?)
He claimed that Gunbroker assigned him a FFL and would not let him change it. (Yeah, right!)
Several days later, his payment arrived, along with payments from 10 other buyers, so I had a big pile (for me) of work to do. I started digging through the pile of orders, just as I always do, one at a time. By this time, I had forgotten about the buyer's request, and shipped his gun to the FFL on the Gunbroker order page.
A few days later, I got a call from the FFL requesting the buyer's phone number. That happens sometimes when the buyer and FFL don't have a pre-existing relationship. I looked it up and gave it to him.
Then I got a phone call from the buyer. He said tracking showed the gun was delivered, but it was not. He asked where I sent it and I told him. Man, he was HOT! "I TOLD YOU TO SEND IT TO THE OTHER FFL!!!" and so on, still claiming that Gunbroker would not let him specify the correct FFL. I told him the receiving FFL called and requested his phone number, so he should be receiving a phone call from him shortly. He was not happy when he hung up.
I haven't heard from him since. He probably has his gun by now, since the receiving FFL is only 10 miles or so from the "right" FFL.
So, my advice to buyers:
Make sure your FFL of choice is listed on your Gunbroker profile.
Ask your FFL to upload a copy of his license to Gunbroker. Specifically, ask him to upload a PDF file of his license to Gunbroker. That seriously streamlines the process.
Make sure the FFL is current. When it's getting close to the expiration date, give the FFL a heads up to upload a current copy.
Lesson over. I'll be here all week.
Comments
I have a copy of my FFL's license in my e-mail file and on my phone. Send it first thing after paying.
Thank you David…I need to do an update…
Same here, if they get 2 then they know it is right.
You need another wife to keep you straight.
Good reminder
Like I need another hole in my head. The ex moved in with a former colleague whose wife died suddenly, only a few days after the funeral. I think the wife found out about the two of them and killed herself, but no one is talking.
We put a statement in our listings that says not to bid if they have an FFL attached to their account they do not intend to use. Everyone wants online sales to run super fast, so we come in Monday…match the payments to the FFLs that are sent in and available to download and everything ships out Tuesday. Having 80 auctions end at one time, you can't go back and forth with everyone….its shipping if we have the payment and an FFL.
One goofball tried to tell me its against the law for me to ship it to anything other than what is on his invoice and he changed his FFL at the time he checked out. I told him the invoice we had at the time it ended showed the FFL….we got the copy of the FFL from his account….and it stated in the listing NOT to bid unless the FFL was correct. He went CRAZY. I blocked him and moved on. THEN, this guy tried to bid another of our auctions. When he found he was blocked he went in and gave us bad feedback on the transaction he goobered up.
I spoke with someone from GB about this….he told me we are not supposed to automatically get the FFL. I don't know how this is supposed to happen, but the FFL is showing up on the orders without any confirmation or such by the buyer. I think this is a flawed system as it is right now. The buyers are having a hard time changing their choice of FFL….we hear it a lot. They are trying to make this website run as fast as possible, but they need to add something that makes the buyer involved in the FFL selection at the time of purchase instead of just attaching it to every transaction.
Then they could find me.🙀
