Typically the serial number will give you a hint…..this one starts with ALC
There are no other markings on the gun other than standard markings.
Cagney or Robinson gangsters
Al Capone?
I can't help but see Gene Kelly

agree.
It's probably Al Capone but it looks like James Cagney.
Or, it's James Cagney as Al Capone.
^^^This^^^. Face structure is a bit off for Capone. I believe it's a likeness of Cagney acting as Capone…esp the raised eyebrow.
Messed up a good Smith.
The side plate bluing doesn't seem to match the rest of the revolver. Could the ALC just be a normal prefix and someone had it "personalized."
Edgar G Robinson gangster. Give it a nice funeral and bury it.
That's Edward G Robinson
You may be right, here is a picture of Edward G Robinson as Al Capone …………… looks a lot like the engraving except for the tie.
On the other hand, the face looks more like James Cagney.
all capone had a round moon face
Edward G. Cagney?
And a swell guy like Capone could afford a new tie everyday. I think that cache is what Geraldo was searching for.
That was my first impression as well:
Get rid of the smile and change the tie and it would sure look like him on that Smith. Bob
Middle aged Paul Newman. Capone carried a 1911.
Stan Laurel trying to look tough….🙃
I'm pretty sure this is FACTORY S&W WORK.. Only way to be completely certain is to have it lettered by the factory. Sadly that costs a few months and a BEN ($100) for the research
I don’t think so. IF that is factory work I will eat my work boot when I make possum stew today.
Normally you can find a picture of something that is a factory job…..I've hunted using every search word I could imagine and haven't found another like this one.
Because it isn't. Could you imagine Smith shipping that out from the factory? Not a chance.
Buy it and have it lettered grasshopper. Then you will know for SURE😍
Unfortunately no match or close hit on google images, but it intentionally tends to block people searches for privacy reasons.
I believe that this is the image of James Cagney that was used.
Absolutely, I thought it resembled Cagney.
The more of a mystery, the more ultra rare it becomes
