Concert ticket nightmare that has turned out to be quite the adventure!

I posted about the Birmingham Zoo silent auction, so you guys know I bid on some things they had up for grabs. Everything that "I" wanted I lost….the BBQ gift set from Full Moon…..the gift certificate from The Pants Store…..the various Bourbon selections…..but what I did win was….

Ok…..before you go nuts…..no, these were NOT for myself. My nephew wanted them. He is 18 and hasn't been to a concert before. He is a good kid, so I put in a bid.
Don't you know, not one more bid was placed. How lucky am I? 😂
Anyway, the auction closed and the concert was the following day. They didn't answer the phone, so I started shooting off emails to every address I could find. No luck. Finally I called Legacy Arena and talked to some sweet lady that said I could probably just pick up the tickets at the ticket office…but not a definate answer.
I got an email back from Legacy saying they didn't have any record of tickets for me. So, I told my sister that I didn't know if the concert was going to happen or not, but I was doing all I could. I sent a copy of the paid invoice to the arena people, someone there said they would get my nephew "IN" but it was just going to be random tickets and not the VIP thing.
So, he got to go…..he loved it. I got a video of some guy singing…who the heck knows who? I feel so old by now.
Finally….Monday comes along and I start getting messages from the Zoo. They feel horrible, they apologize and want to make things up to us by arranging a behind the scenes experience for us. I am STOKED. My sister doesn't get out and do much, she's a bit of a recluse and very reserved (the total opposite of me.) So, I told the Zoo people I'd like this to be for my nephew and his mother. They are getting together on that themselves.
The Legacy Arena reached out to me and said they would like to offer us four tickets to any upcoming event to make up for the confusion….even though it had nothing to do with them.
I swear, this has been a roller coaster for sure.
I can't be happier with how both venues have handled this though.

I don't know anyone else that has as much nutty nonsense happen…..but it comes at me in piles some days.
Right now, I've asked the arena for tickets to Jelly Roll (that is who my nephew and his dad want to see)….if that doesn't work out I'm going to get Disney on Ice tickets and give them to my godson.
That's too bad. Dude didn't get the up and close badonkadonk VIP experience (I'm more Doja Cat fan). Wow, Doja looks odd without hair (when did that happen?) but both makes fun music.
As for Jelly Roll I see it everytime my shirt comes off. Why anyone wants to see that is beyond me.
I'm 60 something and never been to a concert. I'm waiting until I'm a little older. Crazy story but sounds like it's all being made up for quite fairly and that's cool. Enjoy.
Back when I was a LOT younger I went to everything that came to town. I'd skip school and go stand in line to get tickets to things like ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Steve Miller, The Cars, Van Halen (not Van Hagar)….the list is endless. I saw all kinds of bands for $25 or less….bought the Tshirt and wore it to school the next day.
Concerts are stupid these days. We went to an outdoor concert during the summer to see ZZ Top the day after Dusty died. It was an amazing show, but that was the day I realized I'm not built for that any more. The LONG walk to and from the car, the heat, the traffic, its a young person's game for sure. We saw Steely Dan and I liked the whole experience, but everyone since then I'd like to see wants $1000 per ticket and I'm NOT doing that for any show.
Yes, same here on going to all the concerts back in the day.
First show was Joe Cocker 1972, first time I ever smelled weed.
Second show was at a university, 3 bands tickets were $3.00 non- students and $2.00 for students.
I saw the Rolling Stones in 1975 for their Farewell Tour ( seriously, says so right on the ticket stub ! ) , tickets were about $8.50 .
Now forget it, everything is stupid expensive because the internet screwed the artists out of recording sales revenues and they have to make money on the concert tickets.
Not for me anymore, cannot stand crowds.
The year was 1970......Oklahoma State U........and I took my first "love" to see The Fifth Dimension. Some guys on our floor, at Parker Hall, had stood in line for a block of tickets......for 2 days. My date and I had seats in the fourth row at Gallagher Hall(the wrestling/basketball arena).
Later......there was The First Edition (before it was Kenny Rodgers and The First Edition🙄)......then Lou Rawls.....and others.......and other "dates".
Good times.......great memories.🙂
I saw Jelly Roll last year. Awesome music and like going to church where the minister knows the f-bomb will get you closer to God. I saw so many young people praising God. It was mind blowing.
Nikki Maniac, nope, good for him. Just went Saturday to see outdoor venue Gin Blossoms and all proceeds went to disabled vets. Had 4 pre bands and all was great.
The things that I went to in the 70's you can only imagine the things I did, regret none of it. But I could write an x-rated book.
Iron Butterfly and Black Oak Arkansas and I still have hearing loss!
50 years ago, you would drive downtown to a news outlet/drugstore and buy tickets. Affordable for a high school kid and a date.
today it is the same people to a great degree, grey hair if we have it, reliving our youth at 30 times the price watching the same bands performing the same music.
They are dying off now and the voices aren’t as strong. But still good fun

April 6th 1974, not sure if it was my very first concert, but if it wasn't it was close, I was 15 years old and went in a van packed full of crazy friends of which I got separated from going in through security because I had a big bag of sandwiches for everybody, never felt lost though, since having food I made a bunch of friends that had the munchies…People would share stuff in those days…
