Helene
Been awol for a few days. Helene has raged havoc on many places in WNC and east TN.
Thanks to the grace of God our community dodged the blunt force. We have road damage and most areas will not have power restored for many weeks.
Mr. Kohler is supplying power but have to ration it, propane trucks may not be around for some time. Phone and internet just came on. Cell service is picking up.
Anyone heard from Griggs, his community town of Marshal is devastated along with may parts of Asheville and surrounding areas.
Wind damage in high areas above 4,000 feet and anywhere water ran off in rivers and streams , total destruction. Our governor has said it is the worst disaster to ever hit NC.
Folks this a time to come together and serve our fellow men and women and that is what is happening here.
Keep all those involved in your prayers. God is great.

Just found Griggs post. He made it through.
Allen has checked in several times. Other than power outage he pulled through ok. He has posted a few times.
I wonder about ken/84bravo. He's in that area.
He lives in Mtn. City, TN. Hit hard. Don't know any info about him.
His home is up on a hill. Unless the hill slid down or washed out he might be fine. My son is a medic in the county there. The county was hit hard.
I was thinking about Bravo too. I remember him saying he was trained in swift water rescue.
Ken/84 bravo ? I have tried to connect with him several times. No response so far.
just ask lady reah about him yesterday or so, she got hold of him somehow and said he was fine, the road to his house was blocked for a few days or so and same with the electric and phone, they were out for fwe days. He told her most was back to normal except the tree cleanups, but him and buddy were fine…….
I have thought about Ken and his dog buddy
I know he had trouble controlling his post, but he seemed like a Good guy like some of us just a bit out spoken
I Also Hope he is OK
If you want to donate to help the relief efforts, be VERY CAREFUL where you spend your $$$$$. "Cajun Navy 2016" is the real deal—there are a couple of knock-offs. Samaritan's Purse is another good one, and I'm sure there are more. CN2016 has an Amazon wish list that I used, and Samaritan's Purse is where I donated $$$$, they are working through the local churches.
I went through a local church that wants to fill a semi truck. Everyone NEEDS to do something.
Our Lions Club had a Pancake Breakfast this morning. Made Double what we normally make.
All the proceeds go to Hurricane relief. Our Club Matched what was made. Have a Lion Trailer from the District with food and Water is headed to Eastern KY and TN.
Salute to each of you for helping.
Our church is sending two loaded 18 wheelers out tomorrow.. I went to the dollar store and loaded a cart with soap, shampoo ,tooth brushes etc . Wife filled a cart at the grocery store .
He texted me this morning and said all is well. Him and Buddy rode the storm out without the house getting hit by a tree. The road was washed out and they were without power for a few days. He said he was on the phone with Ray and Willy and they sounded OK too.
Great.
Got a text from Ken K just a little while ago.
I suspect he has not made it to town.
My son, a medic in Johnson County, TN, where Ken lives, made 18 swift water rescues. He had pictures of the folks he pulled from deaths grip. I could tell you things that he showed me would give you nightmares. Note this was at the head of the storm runoff, just imagine what happened downstream. Say Erwin, Hampton, Unicoi, Nolachucky, Chucky, and French Broad areas.
You will never hear the truth from the talking heads in the higher up places. Pay no attention to Fakebook, tic tok, Instagram, etc. My 2 cents
Some of the folks whose homes were washed away, their land was washed away, also.
Twenty some years ago, torrential downpours washed homes away in Southern West Virginia. A local man and others pitched in and bought used mobile homes around the area and gathered them near here. They had plans to haul them to the flood stricken area so people could have housing. Trouble was, many mobile home residents didn't own the land their trailers sat on or the land itself was scoured too bad.
We give to World Cental Kitchen. They go wherever there is need.
Samaritains Purse is doing a good job in the Marshall area.
