Did I lose first gear?

Yesterday upon first run I noticed my Caprice not going "Glunck" as she went past 111 miles an hour out of first gear. Ever since I first had her, she always went hard out of first. Other than no hard shifting and no noise she seems to be moving just fine. Maybe she's idling higher?

Well if you went 111 mph in first gear you must have had that engine twisted pretty tight……
Other than that if the thing will move forward from a stop it has first gear.
If you went 111 in first gear, the transmission is awesome! Imagine what it could do in second!
I’m sure you mean 11 mph. Sometimes when you her a clunk when it shifts from 1st gear to second it’s not the transmission but a universal joint that needs replaced. However with out being in the car myself, I’m only guessing.
You have outdone the 188 mph Yugo.
Lucas transmission additive cured the clunky shift in my old El Camino.
theres gotta be a vacuum valve and gasket you over looked somewhere
A little blinker fluid and a new muffler bearing and that thing'll be runnin' like a top!
As long as it is a chrome muffler bearing!
That should've been 11 miles.
waltermoe - Universal joint, huh? Never thunk that. I always thought tranny.
Grasshopper - Yugo? Please when she goes she done left a while ago. Like the salesman from the best cooler movie "Road House" said "she's a runner".
buddyb - Lucas Tranny additive? I'll have to try that. But after 22 years of living with it kind a late I imagine.
So I paid real close attention tonight to replicate the hard shifting (a slow roll like in a parking lot waiting for the clunk/kick). I felt the shift without the clunk. So I still have first.
