Brother called me earlier this evening. He needs a new magazine for his Remington 740 30.06. He asked if I could snoop around and find one. Decided I could use a spare as well for my 742.
I'm thinking I need to mortgage the house to get one for each of us. Good grief.

Get 'em while the price is down. They wont be any cheaper post election.
Sadly I sold all my horded up 760 and 742 agazines several + years ago for 35.00 each even 40.00 each and thought I was cleaning up aother of my mistakes in selling in the wrong time
I kept 3 or 4 for each 760 and 742
But Should have kept them all
By the way the long action mags will work for all the same cartrage length base rounds
Best time to buy is when you don't have to have to have one.
Don't have to have them. Would like to have extra.
@susie I entered Remington 742 in parts and there is a broad range of prices. Some under $50 w/ shipping and others double that.
I had to go look also. Yeah, crazy. Plus 1 toolman.
Yep, I saw those. Some are 10 round mags which are an issue. Some are ugly aftermarket that I just can't see spending money on. I have a bid in on a set of two that closes in 5 days. I was just shocked at the prices. A couple of them are almost as much as a dang gun.
Here's what I'm after:

Same here for an 88 Winchester…..
What caliber?
I'm pleased that although it's been years since I was on the auction side my good rating is still there.
$25 shipping sure adds to the price!
Uggh……where does the time go? Seems like my wife was just giving me than shiny new 7400 in .243 for Christmas. Never got around to buying extra mags…..and here we are. I’m in the same boat.
I see some sites with the Triple K aftermarket mags, but reviews are very mixed on them. There were Promags too, but not many around. As I recall, none of them did very well, especially the 10+ round ones.
Should have gotten a couple factory mags way back. Live and learn, I reckon.
Yep, the Triple K look like the bottom rusted out and someone did a crappy job of rebuild. I just don't trust them based on looks alone.
your rifle may vary, but I had two of the 760 pumps, they could use the same mags as the 742. The newer ones with the plastic bottoms would never feed right in either of my rifles, as said they may work fine in yours but I would make sure they will take returns or even take the rifle in to local gun show and try them for fit before buying if they will let you. Good luck, My son "took over my 30-06" and lost a mag the first year he used it, took me good 6 months of gun show searching to find replacement that worked.
the 760 mags will interchange but I don't think they allow the bolt on the 742's to lock open on the last round, just depends on how much that is an issue for you.
Susie, by the way, if you find 7600 mags cheaper, they should work too. Just don’t have the bolt catch/release on them to hold open when empty. I never liked that anyway.
Yikes, those are some crazy prices!
First year production, .308. with a Pachmayer swing mount and a 4X Weaver.
At least you can still find them. Unlike one for a Sommer Und Ockenfuss. Or pay silly prices for S&W 10mm magazines, I think they're in the $100 range now?
So many 7400s, 740s, 742s, 760s, and 7600s out there, somebody needs to convince Magpul to crank out some quality, affordable mags for us!
Who’s got some pull with those folks? Gunbroker…. use your corporate power for good and help save us old deer hunters!
Phhhttt! I don't wanna hear it. You wanna see expensive? Look up an original Colt 1903 magazine in .32 ACP and nickel finish. A crappy one is $140! A non nickel in great condition can push $400 in asking price. Crazy!
Isn't that "Holly Mackerel" what Amos said to Andy very often😉
Winning bid is at $123.45 (not me). 2 hours to go. Shipping is $25.
I get calls all the time for the 30-06. 2-3 times a week. None here for at least a year.
The newer version magazine with the plastic bottoms won't fit the earlier 740 and 742.
But got oodles of the older 243-308.
Well I have four so Brother is going to borrow one of mine so he'll have a spare during deer season.
Do the .243/.308 ones go for less? That’s what I’m looking for, but I haven’t dug too deep yet.
The 30-06 go for $75.00 or so depending cond.
The other caliber are bit less.
