Got 'em there. Used my sister in laws truck 'cause it's the one with the goose neck for the trailer.
They wandered in for their morning mash, I shut the door, and off they went. A little sad, really. I've been too close to them for a couple months what with hand feeding them their mash twice a day. I'll see 'em again in a couple weeks, though! Then they'll get introduced to THE BIG GREEN EGG!

Sorry to disappoint! There really wasn't even much western about it other than the steers. No horse, no cowboy hat, no six-shooter.
OK, so why bother? Just in it for the meat? Just like high school I'll warrent.
One of the quickest ways to relieve the sadness of having to part with them, is to take a walk through the meat department in the store and look at the prices of beef today, not to mention the quality of hand raised marbled beef compared to grass feed cattle.

So far, so good. More power than I think I'll ever need with that 7.3 Godzilla engine. Real comfy, too.
I guess there is one thing I don't much care for and it wouldn't even affect 99% of the population. When we load the camper on the truck the tailgate needs to be removed. Well, there's a LOT of electric widgets in that tailgate which means there are 4 or 5 connectors that need to be undone and a bypass harness put in place. Once you get that done then you have to fish the wires through a small port in the body and then you can take the tailgate off.
Now, once you've got all that done and the camper on board this truck carries it around like it was born with it. Very little body sway, lots of power (7.3L gas with a 10 speed tranny helps with that), and great brakes (thanks Gregor62!).
Nothing electric in my 1995 F250 Tail gate, but I can't get it to open to take it off…. I got work on adjusting and lubing the locking mechanisms again I guess…
That new tailgate sounds like a hassle.
Just got a call from the butcher. Hanging weights on the three were 626 pounds, 574 pounds, and 496 pounds.
We'll be putting the 626 pounder and half the 496 pounder in the freezer.

Them were good size. You have a lot of meat coming. Enjoy.
That should put around 585 pounds of meat in the freezer. Yield is usually about 67% of hanging weight.
We may need to have more folks over for dinner!

Neo, what's the going by the pound price for a hanging carcass, and the cut/wrap price around there?
Cut/wrap is about $2/lb. Last year we paid $770 total for 575 pounds hanging weight.
Ok thanks Neo, but say a guy like me who doesn't raise a beef buys one hanging off a guy such as yourself. What's the going rate per pound for a hanging carcass?
Local here where I am hanging weight halves or a whole go for about $6.00 a lbs the butcher supplies the steer it is much cheaper if you supply the steer, but it has been awhile since I've had my own cows and so was just looking online yesterday at a local place they raises and sells it all done local they have online sales, but the delivery is pretty steep since they aren't real big like some of the major players, but one of their storefronts is only about 12 miles from my place.
On the half we got, we paid $4.99 a pound from hanging weight. Custom cut and wrapped.

I agree it can be a bit sad with cows, pigs or sheep. That is why I like chickens. Just took a bunch to the auction a couple of weeks ago and did not feel bad.
Check this place out. Grass fed red and black angus and I don't think they're too far from you. They go as low as 4.40/pound.
