Western Field by Mossberg clip fed SA .22 delivered to my rural mailbox. Saved up the purchase price from mowing lawns and family farm work. Some 10 years later I refinished the stock with a Formby's hand rubbed kit and touched the metal up with cold blue for the wife's youngest brother's Christmas present (1st gun).. He thought it was new. Sadly it was burned up in the fire that killed my FIL.

Not real sure. I do remember ordering out of an old American Rifleman’s magazine back in 1964 when I was 14, an old 8mm French Lebel rifle for $5. I remember my dad just shacking his head. Found some bullets for it that cost 50 cents apiece back then.
And ya, I think I lied about my age back then.

1917 Enfield All stock metal with a Bishop sporter stock. $40.00 in 1974/75. I traded to my brother later on. He put a military stock on it, and still has it.

Norinco SKS in college (1997). $150. First gun I bought myself, and my first “deer rifle.” Kept it under my dorm room bed so I could hunt on the weekend with one of my professors.

Savage Model 340 in .222 Remington when I was about 15 or so. I needed something more accurate than Dad's Model 94 .30-30 for woodchuck hunting.

1st gun was a 410 ithica I was 8 years old dad gave eight dollars for it still have it.

1st one I bought my self I was 16, urs old just got my first real job and the "westerauto" next door to the store h d a small gun cabinet always had 4 to 8 assorted inexpensive guns in it

I bought a 22 that was a cheesy AR knock off at a Glace it resembled a ar15 . Made by armscore ? Or something like that . I Made payments of 5 or 10 dollars a week I think it was 49 or 59 dolars total . When i paid it off

Then dad had to sign for me to get it

He went on to sign for four or five more guns for me before I turned 18 .

Oh the good old days al just great memories now

In 1958 I had a paper route selling the Williamsport, Pa. Sun Gazette. Bought a brand new Winchester 94 in .32 Special because my Uncle Al had one and it was more powerful than a 30-30. $79.95 with a box of silver tips thrown in. Later I bought a Lyman 310 loading tool and a K-3 Weaver because my Uncle Al had one and it was more powerful than a 2 1/2!!. I still have 'ol 2,165,169 and shoot her occasionally.

Mossberg 500 field/slug combo when I turned 18. Fast forward 30+ years and I haven't found a need to replace it yet 😉

Enemies of armed self-defense focus on the gun. They ignore the person protected with that gun.

A brand new Mossberg 146B in the fall of 1951. I would have turned 14 on Oct. 28 that year so I was probably still 13 and a high school freshman. I ordered it from the local hardware store. I think I paid $29.95 for it. When it came in, I picked it up after school and then walked home the 2 miles with it since, of course, I'd missed the school bus. I was impressed by the fact that it held 30 .22 short cartridges and all kinds of sights that it had on it. Later, I borrowed $10 from my Grandpa to buy a Mossberg 4M4 scope for it. It took me a long time to pay that back! That rifle was my constant companion around the farm. I did mostly kept it loaded with shorts because they were 50 cents a box while LR's were 75 and longs were somewhere in between. I also used it in the local NRA sponsered junior rifle club. Much later, my son adopted it to use on the starling population. He wants that rifle bad. He is 66 now and recently bought his own 146B because he said he is tired of waiting for me to die to get mine.

I was given a Sears or Montgomery Wards single shot .410.

First one I traded for was a CVA Mountain rifle .50 caliber percussion.

But, the first gun I bought with my own money was a S&W model 422 .22lr. I still have it. Most of my guns are near mint, but it is one of the few guns I have that is very well worn and looks to have been through a war. Whenever I am in the woods, it is on my hip unless I think I want my 10mm. I suspect I have shot 25k rounds through it over the past 30 years.

Used H&R Topper 20ga in 1960 from Santa

AH Yes, a 222Remington. Uncle Sugar sent me to Fort Hood Texas to ''learn something''. That's where l saw my first PRAIRIE DOG and fell in LOVE with them. Back to Ft Gordon shortly thereafter l found a used Win Mod 70 in 222Rem and a 10x Leupold. Kenny Jarrett mounted the Leupi. Said no dog was safe inside 300yds. l got 300rds of S&B 50gr SPs from MidWayUSA thru the mail. Following June l took leave and headed West for Plainview TX in my lsuzu pup. First shot with that 222 on a PD was around 75yds. That boy stood at attention sniffing the air. I set the crosshairs on his chest. The 222's 50gr SP sent his little HEAD straight UP! I was HOOKED😍

That 222 Mod 70 was my very FIRST 'Varmint Rifle'

Ithaca Model 37 12ga. I purchased it after a summer of walking beans, mucking out barns and bailing hay for some farmers in my neck of the woods. 145.00 including a case of shells. Still have it almost 50 years later and used it to hunt doves a few years ago….

Thank you…I am left handed so a bottom eject shotgun was a good thing. Some of the other makers bounced the spent shell off my head !!
