Favorite bullet....

I recently signed up for a Caribou Hunt in a few years. I'll be using my 30-06. I am a handloader. What is your favorite bullet for such a hunt you think? I am leaning towards a nosler partion or accubond in 150-168 grain range. What says the panel of judges?

Berger or Barnes in your weight range.
I shoot a 7mm STW with 165 grain Barnes TSX. Elk can't take the lick from that. Do your part and most anything will do the job.
I have shot deer with the partition out of a 7mm magnum, not real happy with results occasionally.
I would stay on the heavy side. Caribou can go to 600lbs.
MY favotite
Was
Roy Rogers
German Shepard "Bullet"
When I was a kid I knew I wanted one like him,
OK I know different not what was expected
but you ask what was my favorite bullet LOL
i never hunted with a rifle shotgun only in ohio fir many years so no preference n bullet type I reloaded so it was the least expensive at the shows I could buy just to waste in the back yard
By The way best of luck on your hunt
Mine is the one that hit the bullseye dead center!
.
The one that missed me a long time ago in a land far away.
Speer Grand Slam.
Barnes ttsx 168 grain
I have used the Nosler Partition for many years on many different animals and nerve has it let me down if I did my placement job correctly. Any double struck bullet put in the right place will be better than stick and stones.
Nosler partition either 150 or 165 which ever your rifle likes. Speer Grand Slam also a good choice. It 'pushes' a bigger frontal mushroom than the partition but gives up some penetration in doing so.
I'm personally not a fan of AccuBond especially when used at long range or lower velocities due to lack of expansion. Maybe less of a factor in wide open terrain.
I am a fan of the Nosler partition, but not so much the accubond. When the Winchester Accubond CT ammo came out, I had 2 bullet failures on big Montana deer. Both times the bullet literally blew up in the deer and an empty jacket was recovered. I sent the remaining ammo and one of the recovered bullet jackets to Winchester and their only response was to send me a coupon for a couple more boxes. Maybe I got a bad batch but I wasn't going to chance using them again. The next year I tried Federal Fusion and it worked perfectly. I recovered a couple of bullets over the next few years and both had retained 90% of their weight and formed a good mushroom. I wouldn't hesitate to use the Fusion bullets on caribou or elk. Just my 2 cents. Bob
I think either would be a good choice. I have had very good results in both bullets in the 150 grain on deer. I like Nosler bullets.
I read an article some years ago that recommended using factory ammo on an expensive hunting trip. The reason was that things can and do go wrong with reloads no matter how careful you are.
After I experienced a misfire at the range , no powder in the cartridge. that made sense to me. Yes, I still used reloads after that, but I had a box of factory ammo also. The advice was: don't risk a failed hunting trip for the cost of a box of ammo. Good luck.
Nothing wrong with a Nosler Partition. I have also had good luck with Sierra GameKing.
Ditch-Runner. Then there was Rin-Tin-TIn, Lassie and of course Farrell!
My two go-to bullets in my 30-06 is the 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip and the 180 grain Nosler Partition. I would probably use the 180 grain Partition on Caribou.
Hope you have a great hunt.
I was going to add rin-tin-tin
He was top of my list also
I do not remember farrell ?
Lassie w as a great show and dog(s)
But the German Shepards are just a t handsome and great companions
We have had several ovwe the years our 1st one i bought just after my wife and I married ginger that was back in 1979 our last one was Buddy we lost him three years ago burred now in our pet cementary with many more loyal pals
My Wife called him the gentle giant he was 140 pounds of true Shepard .
I've never killed anything bigger than a whitetail, but the Speer Grand Slam is great. I shot a buck in November with a Nosler Ballistic Tip and the bullet passed through his heart and exited without expanding.
Speer Grand Slam's are similar to the bullet used in the old style Remington Corlokt
I've never done reloading. For ott 6 I used factory Remington Core- lokt in 180gr.
"Farfull' was a venquiliquest's (sp??) dummy dog used to sell Nestle products. N_E_S_T_L_E_S makes the very best chocolate . . . .😊. Also my favorite is my 22/250. Rem. 700 with H.D. barrel with a Leopold VX II 1-4 scope. GREAT range gun.
I think I'd go with a 180 gr. Nosler partition, once-fired RP case, WLR primer, 57 gr. of IMR4831. That load runs +/- 2700 fps in most of my 06's and the groups are good. Try every cartridge through your rifle; magazine to chamber & eject, to make sure everything fits and functions right. Whatever you go with: Good luck!
In this day and age your choices of really great bullets are almost endless.
Never have hunters had it so good. Today if your under 6 to 800 dollar can't shoot under an inch we feel cheated. I well remember if your rifle could shoot a 1 inch group you had serious bragging rights!!
Between super accurate rifles shooting incredible performing bullets we've got it all!!
My thoughts, Barnes, Sierra, Nosler or Hornady can't be beat. Which ever shoots best from your rifle is the way to go.
Thanks I do remember the commercials but not dogs name
