We have a split season.
Three days the weekend before Thanksgiving and four days the weekend after.
I was very fortunate that all the work I put into my farm paid off the first weekend.
I was able to get a nice 8 point 4 minutes into opening day.
I got a nice doe the next day.
I had to wait til 9:30 to get her. 😉
The buck weighed 172 field dressed.
The doe, 106.
Both shot with a Ruger American in .350 Legend.
Both ran less than 60 yards.
The buck was at 50 yards and the doe at 125
Hunted this weekend using my muzzleloader tag but was unsuccessful.
I will be able to use it next weekend for the ML only season

Nice!! That buck was darn decent weight.
Nice deers both of them, you’ll get some nice meat off of them.
Congratulations.
You did real good ,congrats.
Awesome congratulations
Great work! Sounds like the 350 Legend did good work. I have been really happy with mine, and the 180 grain loads have been pretty devastating on deer.
That’s what I use. Winchester 180’s.
Congratulations on a successful season.. !!
I take it Illinois is finally allowing the use of rifles after all these years. Is that statewide ?
nice!
Yes but, with a lot of stipulations.
Basically straight walled cartridges over .30 cal.
Single shot.
I made a sled for my bolt gun.
straight wall single shot only. The 350-400- 450 straight walls have replaced the shotgun in my area. My local dealer sold over 200 350 Legends.
Nice pair of deer there!
Congrats
Congrats, nice buck
Congrats. I struck out this year.
That is very interesting…… All those years I hunted in Illinois and I think of all the really nice bucks just out of Slug gun range. I would say the new regs worked out well for you Chief Shaway !!!!!
Illinois still have their mid January hand gun season?
it’s now a “late winter “ season. All firearms allowed.
Unfortunately not my county tho.
