A little experiment

The year is 2024. You are you as you are now (age, ability, etc.) except, for some reason you have no experience with or knowledge of firearms and decide you want to learn. What do you decide to do? Would you search the internet? What would you search for? What are the results of that search?
Would you talk to someone? Who would you talk to? What does that person tell you to do?
Would you do something else? What is it? And what do you find out when you do it?
Come back here when you have the answers and the results of what you find.
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

Hypothetical answers to hypothetical 'experiment'.
I asked a cop about guns. Turns out only cops can buy and have guns. I asked what gun he has but he wasn't sure what kind it is, and said he doesn't shoot it much.
I went to a gun store and found out I have no where near the money needed to buy everything you have to have to own a gun. I bought the big gun they suggested to get started and went out to a range they told me about. I shot the gun and it jump out of my hand. The gun is broke with a active bullet sticking out the top, scratched, and still loaded. My hand hurts bad. The store doesn't remember me and won't take the gun back. I left the gun on the seat of my car at another store. It got stolen. I did a police report. They want wanted to know what kind of gun. I told them I wasn't sure, maybe glock something, but described it and told them it was black. The police report states it is a highly automatic assault rifle.
I looked online about guns and found they are the devil. I hate guns and everyone that has one.
I found a couple gun chat rooms on the internet. I asked a few questions, but got answered with smart remarks, overwhelming technical information, and cartoons. There were 20 different answers, none the same. It started fights among the members of their own kind. The topic got deleted so I cant reference anything later. I quit going there, it's a cult anyway.
I asked a war vet, but he doesn't want to talk about it.
I asked a neighbor I hardly know, about guns. He got all scared and went in his house. The cops show up at my house and start questioning me about if and how many guns I have. They asked if I made suggestive threats to anyone. I'm now a person of interest and on a watch list.
I talked to a guy I've seen on the street a couple times. We talked and partied a little bit. For $250 bucks I got a glock something 9, with loaded high maximum clip. It looks scratched up bad like it was dumped in the gravel, but Roach assures me its new. I also got some smack. I'm now high and armed.
OK
I live in Appalachia. The librarian has a gun.
Any time you are going from the unknown, and want to go on to the known, it’s best to seek out knowledge from someone that has experience in that field. If you wanted to learn to fly airplanes you would go to the airport and talk to a flight instructor. If you wanted to learn about guns you could just read about them, but, if you want to learn how to operate a firearm It would be best to seek out an instructor at a gun range.
All part of the learning process. First you search for a rote knowledge on the subject, then practical application/hands on experience, and with the two you will develop a correlation and better understanding of the subject.
Or, you could just get drunk with a bunch of buddy’s and then go out and join the army or marines, they’ll teach you about weapons and how to shoot. Lol
I would watch Gunsmoke. Don
At my age and level of intelligence I would know enough about firearms by osmosis to be able to fire one safely, beyond that I would seek out the advice and guidance of an expert.
The only stupid questions are the ones that are not asked.
But I had help from the beginning as my Dad was a marksman on the Navy pistol team.
For me it has been a lifelong learning experience. Too old to start over.
Go to a gun range and observe .
Having GOOD mentors......on any number of subjects......in life, is a GOOD thing.
I consider myself fortunate.......to have had more than my share.😎
I don't like this game, I'm taking my ball and going home….🤣
Just one? Don
I would go on the Gunbroker talk boards………..
There are folks there that are very knowledgeable……and a bunch who think they are !!! 😉😮🙃
Actually I would likely go to the same place I went way back when. I worked in and around law enforcement my entire career. I learned a lot hanging out with them, shooting with them and in time qualifying with them.
I would consult my two grand daughters. They are both cops and before I lost all my knowledge and experience with firearms I taught them everything they know.
I would be in the "Twilight Zone."
Just so you could ‘ogle’ Miss Kitty ,,,,,,, with or without the ‘mole’ !!
young miss Kitty yeah but last year she was on the show - bleh. It's amazing what heavy smoking will do to a beautiful woman.
This late in life, I think I would just take up watch collecting.
Mr. Perfect, look what you've started.
Shame on you loknlode. She died a painful death at 59 after suffering from cancer for years. She did a lot of good during her short life.
Did I pass the test??
Yeah, two blocks back on the left………..
I wouldn't ask a cop. It isn't like the old days when most cops were gun nuts or at least very knowledgeable. Today most cops are only familiar with the Glock plastic on their hip, and the AR with 30 round mags in the cruiser. Example: My granddaughter was recently doing backup for an officer with much more time on the force than she has. They took down a thug who dropped a 1911 on the ground, loaded and cocked. Her experienced partner had no idea how to make the gun safe, so she did it.
