What do you all think of the model 50? I looked at one in a local shop, 20 gauge 28" modified, couldn't believe how light it was for an auto. Any pros or cons on this model? Anything I should check for before buying one?
Thanks

My questions: Doesn't this grade usually have engraving? This one has none??
I would appreciate someone offering a value range as I have described it. Sorry, do not have pictures and I know that would make it easier!! Sorry.
Thanks
Thanks for response,
Morty
Can anyone point me to a source, or give us all a write-up, about the Model 50? It seems to have been made for only a few years. Any comments about reliability, robustness, quirks?
Thanks.
The pictures I've seen of other model 50 were of plain no engraved bodies and stocks. Is this some sort of special edition or custom work? My father bought this back in the late 50's or early 60's and he is deseased, so I can't ask him. I can take some pictures if needed. And NO it won't be for sale!

Thank you in advance for any information I can give him.

If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly
How can I tell if the closing spring is weak or okay? Where would I be able to purchase a new one or one that is okay? Maybe Bobski or only Winchester can help with this issue.
used but cared for(good condition or better)
fyi, discussions should be put in discussion room where people can post long threads on feelings and experiences. experts tend to answer factual questions with facts and then topics get locked after 10 posts.
but none the less, model 50's are my favorite gun and they are still great shooters. the majority of 50's i see are worn to the white. which should tell you something about the owners...they shot em a lot! but people today like fads, and dont enjoy old guns anymore. guns need bells and whistles. 50's were just solid guns that did a job...with some minor engineering flaws. 50's are good guns. save for the buttplate, the whole gun is metal. they just dont make them like that anymore.[;)]

True on they don't make 'em like they used to. I have yet to see a "new" shotgun that can compare to a pre-64 Winchester shotgun (especially the smaller bores) when it comes to balance, handling, pointability, and overall feel. And they are true "lifetime" firearms.

biggest mistake winchester made was to NOT make the 50 in 28ga and 410.
I, myself have never had the pleasure of firing an M12 in 28 gauge. My favorite M12 and M50 are the 20 gauges. They are the sweetest handling repeaters I've ever known. I can only imagine what a 28 gauge Winchester Model 50 would be like.

what grade 20ga 50 you got?
It's just a field grade with a 28 inch full choke barrel. I have a 26 inch WS-1 barrel for it. (I'm kinda collecting barrels for it) It's in 90% overall condition, maybe a bit more. I use it on late season doves. I'd love to have a higher grade 50 in 20 gauge skeet as well as an M12 20 gauge skeet. A 28 gauge model 12 is also a dream gun of mine.
