Just recieved a factory nickle ar 15 SP1 Colt. it's in very good plus condition. i can't seem to find any info about this AR. Anyone know the history, when produced, value?

Why would they make a gun designed for combat with a nickel finish?
Seems like it was in the late 70s or early 80s
I remember picking up two at Interstate Distributors in Little Rock AR for our store.
There were a few made in .222 Rem also.

My Guess is that it would be mat finish, (electroless nickel), rather then a high polish mirror finish that they put on some of their limited production commercial handguns.
Came out in 1981 and was called Coltguard.
