Auction "Sniping" Does Anyone Really Care?

Regarding gunbroker auctions, but I guess it applies to all, but do sellers really care? They've decided the opening bid, reserve(if any), etc., and as long as they get the money does it really matter? It's inevitably a higher bid, so mo money, right?
At one time there seemed to be greater emphasis on this as bad manners but it would appear to be S.O.P. (standard operating procedure).
I've done it a few times and it seems to be a good "poker" stratedgy (not showing your hand) for the me the buyer but I don't want to be a #1 A-hole.
Them ducks is wary.

I bid in the last 2 minutes of an auction here, the auction was extended by fifteen minutes, another person outbid me, and it was extended for another 15 minutes, it went on for over 2 hours that way.. I finally gave up...as I could buy the item new for what was being bid..

I buy very few things on e-bay because of their lack of the 15 minute rule. I'll usually only buy things on e-bay that are "buy it now" if I'm willing to pay their price.

On fleabay I've 'sniped' quite a few parts/accessories for my Harley. The best sniping deal I got there was a gas tank for $270.00, including shipping. The best deal I'd found elsewhere for the same gas tank was $325.00, plus shipping. My local dealer wanted $425.00, plus tax. So, on that one deal alone I saved at least $55.00.
Being a 'fleabay sniper' is not being a #1 A-Hole. It's my money. JMHO.

If you are really interested in the item, simply place a single proxy bid for the maximum you feel it is worth, and let it ride. Many of those "snipers" trying to bid it out from under me in the last 30 seconds of the auction run out of time trying to find my proxy bid amount, or if they are using a program like eSnipe, they either max out their bid, or end up getting the item for a premium.

"snipers" get caught up in the emotional/competive part of bidding
and wind up going way past thier price cap, I have seen MANY of these snipers Bidding up to store retail just to "win" and thats just stupid IMO.

I bid my max that I would pay. At 10 seconds before the auction ends, I launch. As long as I have high bid and the phone lines don't drop off the pole, the item is mine. Doesn't work here though. Love to sell here though. Just put some goodies on tonight!

one time I bid on a video and got into a bidding war on ebay and the other guy ended up paying a lot more than the video was worth. Thats why people snipe or wait until the end to bid. Sniping works best during the non peak hours when most people are asleep, if an auction ends at 2:00 am you have less competition comapred to 6 or 8 pm when more people are watching it.

But then, I am mostly a seller, so have a different perspective than some of you who are buyers only.
