Police Search For Suspect Who Shot Two Olive Branch Officers
MEMPHIS- An Olive Branch police officer is fighting for his life after a shoot out this morning near a business on Goodman Road. Olive Branch police say Patrolman Mark Ayers was shot at least twice in the abdomen after confronting a driver in a suspicious vehicle. He is now listed in critical condition at the MED.
A rookie officer who was with Ayers was also injured. Douglas Stanek also suffered also a gun shot wound to the stomach, but was wearing a bullet proof vest. He is listed in stable condition and is being treated for bruises to his ribs.
Police say Ayers and Stanek approached a car that was parked along Goodman Road, near Highway 304 in Olive Branch. The vehicle was parked in front of a business that was recently burglarized. Officers say Ayers and Stanek asked for the driver's ID and say that's when the driver took off and started shooting at the officers. The officers did return fire.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
P.S.
>The suspect abandoned the car (rear window shot out) about 300 yards from where the officers were shot. Happened about 4:30am this morning. Olive Branch, MS is a growing suburb of Memphis and a lot of "trash" from Memphis is now "creeping" into Olive Branch.

Sorry to hear about your hometown's problem with garbage creep.
There were a couple of female cops with them but they stayed in the car crying.
that's kinda out of line don't you think?

Absolutely not. It was a response to the cutesy little remark above mine.
Any uniformed cop that goes without his vest needs to read this story.
