Never use Spray Lube on your paper shredder

Well - Add me to the Darwin list - At 53 years old you would think I would have thought this one through - Paper Shredder was bogging down so I unplugged the unit, cleaned out what I could, emptied the hopper, put the top back on the hopper (empty now), sprayed the teeth while the unit was still unplugged and then plugged it back up. Grabbed a piece of paper to run through it and POOF - there went half of my eyebrows, eye lashes, and a little of the hair on the front of my head until I was able to extinguish it with my shirt....The empty hopper held the fumes from the 3 in 1 spray and it found a source and when the paper turned on the machine it lit me up. I am very lucky. Had my reading glasses on and a hat or it could have been worse. That was also very stupid, in hind sight....Mark

never something like this existed....
Natural gas water heater went out for no apparent reason, so I re-lit pilot light and turned gas back on. Didn't take off for a few seconds, so I looked in the burner area to see if pilot had went out. About the time I got my face near the opening, WHOOOOM, gas explosion directly in the face. Lost most of my eye lashes, eye brows, and some hair on my head, burns to most of my face (eye lids hurt the most), and melted the contacts in my eyes. Took months for my eye lashes and eye brows to regrow and look almost right. I was very lucky I was not hurt more seriously.
Now, I am far more cautious when lighting gas appliance pilots.
I was told this in a meeting with a lawyer, advising us as we considered updating the safety manual for the city.
And now my wife is pissed off because the house smells like burnt hair and she can not leave (just had surgery). Well tomorrow will be a good time for me to stop by the store and pick up a small bundle of flowers and a couple cans of Fa breeze....Mark
She's gonna let you wait 'till tomorrow?
You lucked out... Mine would'a made me find a 24/7 store RIGHT THEN... [B)]

And you're not blind? I don't know, but seems like that would have severly damaged the cornea beyond repair/healing. Guess you did get real lucky!
