I grew up in a similar environment, but with terrible bigots in my family. I had to learn, grow, and evolve, as you did.
My son married a white girl, but had he married a black girl, that would have been fine too. As a matter of fact, I had one picked out for him, a real sweetie, but he made his own choice.

When I met my husband while we were attending university he was one of the nerdiest looking guys on campus. He wore double knit pants, had large plastic framed glasses, was studying computer science and was in ROTC.
You see, we were introduced and got to know each other. Imagine that!! I am suspecting that is how most of the folks on here ended up with their current spouses. You know, got to know each other, fell in love and got married to build a live together, face life's challenges and stand beside each other to one day sit on a porch in a rocker looking back on the rich life lead and watching the grandchildren grow up.

I also know a young woman, six feet tall absolutely stunning, who I've known all her life and never seen look anyplace but at the ground. I never meet her father.

I'll tell you who appears to have some serious issues is Opra. She stated (I may be paraphrasing) she unconditionally supports Barrack Obama because he is black. Her motives may be to instill pride in the black community, but it comes off as, no matter how successful she is, she feel she needs to shamelessly support anything black to enhance her own self esteem. If she said Obama is the most intelligent, the most moral, the greatest leader and most any other superlative, I could live with her opinion (no matter how much I disagree with it). But her unwavering support seems to be grounded in the fact, he is black and little else to hear her tell it. She strikes me as a rabid racist at the core.
Inter racial marriages, IMO, seldom work out well. IMO the motives are often the wrong motives. It is hard to argue with, reproductive imperative, as a motive. Black, white, whatever, people sometimes get subliminal messages that are hard, if not impossible, to ignore. Something along the lines of our offspring "will !!!" be better than either of us separately. People IMO often rely on reason (front brain) when listening to their own instincts would likely produce better results. And I'm not talking about rubbing two naked bodies together, that is bound to get a reaction. I'm talking about real imperative, that produces superior offspring and lasts a lifetime. Mother nature likely knows best, it is our front brains that usually manage to screw the process up.
