...is your main battle rifle?
Recognizing, of course, that you have more than one that probably qualifies, which one is your go to that you are taking with you to march into battle? No, I'm not saying a one gun scenario as opposed to say a 3 gun scenario, I'm saying in any scenario, what's your battle rifle?

Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit

I would have to see what the situation presented before deciding.
I'm in the minority I don't own a AR style rifle I would probably pick my Marlin 94 .357
Fight with the one ya brung! I have an AR, but I don't know if I consider it a battle rifle anyway. I would probably press it into service as one, but I'd prefer something else.

toss up M1A or a AR15
( leaning to the AR as If I have to march its not going to be far and could carry more ammo ,less weight would allow me another few steps at a fast walk [:D] ) also have a lot more P-mags and 5.56 ammo [:0]
Just curious, but why do you want to know?
At age 60, I'm not planning on marching anywhere.
I'll put your eye out with this thing. [:D]
I'm unaware of the phrase 'main battle rifle'. I do know that that term isn't used by the military. Same as 'assault rifle' isn't.

Battle rifle is merely a descriptive phrase in common usage. See for example: https://books.google.com/books?id=_a0zAwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false
Why do I want to know? Sheer curiosity. If you don't want to participate find another thread. Won't hurt my feelings.

my go to: .300 Blk PDW MAS Defense upper, PSA lower with Geissele SD 3G triggger
I can't say as I have a main battle rifle, to say I have a main battle rifle would mean that I have gone to battle. Which I have not, so I have no main battle rifle
The question is (essentially) assuming you were pressed into battle, what gun do you have that you want as your rifle?

Not scoped.... AK 5.56 is probably the most universal middle of the road.
Too old to live...too young to die...
As stated above. I have (as do most here,) an extremely varied assortment. I would be hard pressed to answer that question.
I would have to see what the situation presented before deciding.
C'mon Ken, I need you by my side today as we fight the enemy. Hurry up. Grab your gun....
What are you grabbing?

Belgian made FAL. No import marks. Don't ask...
Gotta ask: Is it a G series?

As I've told my nephew on this subject, 'you'd better hope they aren't the spotter for a mortar crew.'
Good question, Randy.
But I would have several caveats, such as whether they were riding Shetlands and I needed a gun sighted low, is it Monday or Thursday...cause that matters, and whether this was live humans or Zombies...cause I would use a green gun for those.

DancesWithSheep is that you??? ..... [:D]

A fine specimen,,Carefull, you don't shoot your PP off.
at one time it was my bone stock SKS, just fine for limited engagements.
another time it would have been my SP1. another time it would have been my 16" A3 with ACOG. or, another time it would have been my CETME... or, another time it would have been my XM177. flavor of the week.
I suppose whatever I have at the time defines what I can battle, not vice-versa.

Okay, if pressed. Probably one of my AR's. Throw my highly modified PLR-16 over my shoulder, on its single point sling, as a backup.
Close in, (around here, due to terrain.) I might pick my tricked out my Marlin Camp 9 with high capacity mags, & a Bushnell M&P trophy CQB scope. (Modified buffer, springs, trigger, and high intensity flashlight.)
Shares mags with my S&W mdl 59, and my Kel-Tec P11. A nice trifecta.
So many to choose from.
I'm also partial to one of my ultra reliable Mosin Nagant M38's or M44's. Some with modified Mojo Microclick, donut in a donut sights.
So many to choose from.
In one unit I was with in the Army, I carried a 12ga. Riot Pump. I'm pretty comfortable with that in close in terrain. (Like around here.) Either my Benelli Super Nova or my Winchester 1300 Defender or? or? or? (Lots to choose from.) I collect Military Riot pumps. I would alternate slugs with 00 buck, every other round.
Hope that cleared things up. [:D]
If I'm caught transiting in my vehicle, it will be my Kel-Tec Sub2k and my Glock 22 in .40 cal. With about 4 33 round mags, and a couple 15-17 round mags. (My travel pkg.)

Assault rifle, the term, isn't used by the US Army. It's been in use by Continental Armed Forces since about 1943. It was a pet name coined by Herr Hitler for the MP-43/44 weapons and the StG-45
Now you are aware.
depends on the battle.

How do you like the CETME?
