Have to be my AR15 since I have the most ammo and magazines.
The only other choice I have is my M1Carbine, as far as a battle rifle.
Although I do have a Mauser M48 and a few hundred rounds. And a Jap Arisaka Type 99 for bayonet charges. [:D]
A phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.
If that one fails my backup is my Ruger .44 Carbine. I'm surrounded by woods so the long range stuff wouldn't do much good.

depends on the battle.
at one time it was my bone stock SKS, just fine for limited engagements.
another time it would have been my SP1. another time it would have been my 16" A3 with ACOG. or, another time it would have been my CETME... or, another time it would have been my XM177. flavor of the week.
I suppose whatever I have at the time defines what I can battle, not vice-versa.
How do you like the CETME?
it was made by CAI, bought it around 1998-2000 in Dallas from a local dealer for $630 which was a good price at the time. it was the first run for CAI when their USA-made receivers were forged, with integral flattop, instead of the recent C308 model with stamped receiver and welded-on flatop.
the parts kits were all Portuguese. the one I got was a black plastic forestock and black spray-painted wood buttstock.
the forged receiver was smooth on the outside but had rough "stippling" on the inside, on all non-bearing surfaces.
I thought I would make it into a PSG-type sniper rifle, so after I cleaned it thoroughly (examining the roller block action) I sent it to the best gun store in DFW that I knew of (Springbok Inc, Irving TX, run by a Mr. Charles Burford II) for T&E regarding its capabilities and the possibility of accurization.
well they took it, and gave it back the next week. said it shoots 1 MOA, charged me 50 bucks for time and match grade ammo, and nah it wouldn't make that great of a sniper rifle. not worth accurizing it.
...and the action was clean as a whistle, just like when I gave it to them. they could not have shot even 1 round through it. a fool parted from his $50.
anyways, I got some surplus .308 and took it to the range. I got maybe 2 MOA with iron sights. decided I didn't have the $$$ to turn it into a sniper rifle. really I think would have turned out well.
pros:
1. I liked the way it carried. felt good in my hands.
2. it had the HK drum sight. that was nice.
3. recoil was surprisingly mild with the generic muzzle brake CAI put on it.
4. that forged receiver was solid as a brick.
5. surplus aluminum 20-rd mags were super cheap.
6. does not require a claw-mount for the scope. instead it has an integral flattop on a very solid receiver.
7. takes an HK bayonet
cons:
1. rather large. but it is a .308 after all.
2. sort of front-heavy, if I remember right.
3. cheesy safety switch.
4. good trigger break but long and spongy.
5. mag release button way too far away.
6. forestock was very loose. had to insert a peice of rope.
7. forestock was much too narrow. (design flaw)
8. wood buttstock kept coming loose, only 2 small screws, and they were on the verge of stripping out. (design flaw)
9. charging handle was impossibly hard to cock, because the spring was put in backwards at the factory.
I liked it. would buy another one if I wanted a .308
Anyone ever tell you what part your gonna shoot off with that Mexican carry ? [:D]
I am no longer planning on going into battle - even my electric mobility chair is'nt fast enough to do a tuck and roll .
So - being trapped pretty much on the inside, my battle long gun is a a older standard weight Remington 1100 with 2&3/4" chamber, and an extended mag tube. It has composite standard style butt and forearm with no other add ons. It has great shot to shot control and spits rounds out as if shooting a 10/22 on rapid fire. It is a 20ga gun with a shortened barrel. I can send a lot of buckshot pellets down the hall in a very short time.
I have been in several gun fights close and far; I don;t think I would have felt under gunned with a M1 Garand in any but 2 of them and those were close and I need fire power NOW.
From Grenada to Panama to OEF and OIF I have carried a M60, M21, M16a2 and a M4/M203 in combat and in most cases a M1 Garand would have done a fine job.
I have a few to choose from, but I would favor the M16A1 clone I just built. It is iron sights with a nickle boron BCG, 1/7 twist. I prefer the A1 fixed stock and 20" barrel.
Other choices would be my Colt 6920 or 10.5" SBR AR15. I have a bunch of AR15 magazines and even more ammo on hand.
I think we should all to try to downselect so that (heaven forbid) in the event we all had to band together, we would only need resupply for one or two (maybe 3 at most!) types of ammo.

Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

Has DWS appeared yet? Seems like a call out thread.

Or I'll stay home and drink beer.
Beer sounds good.

I'd probably just reach in and grab something.
Your carry handle is wrong. Check your center of gravity with a loaded mag.
