Beach,You demonstrate a willingness to jump to erroneous conclusions. You suggest that because I have not served in the military, I have no right to express an opinion on the matter. You interpret that I am being insulting toward something which you apparently "hold sacred"-- that is, military service. I have no "sacred cows"; I give criticism when I think criticism is due.You know nothing about me, you have no clue as to what things I know, or how I know them. (Relating to the military or otherwise.)You conclude (wrongly), that because I suggest that a young man look elsewhere for opportunities other than the military and that I have offered criticism about the military and some of the people in it, that I have now "insulted" the entire institution. You are reactionary in your response, crude in your language, and plain down-right WRONG in your conclusions. You interpret any criticism as the equivalent of complete condemnation!Such unwillingness to tolerate criticism is a clear indication of "blind obedience" to a cause or institution--that is the sort of behavior the miserable dictators in the world want, it is not the behavior which should be tolerated in a military force protecting "free people".[This message has been edited by competentone (edited 01-14-2002).]

comp..I thought you had rested your case and were on the floor laughing. Apparently my criticism stung your sensitive civilian ego. Ok,.... no,... I don't know you. My criticism was directed at your sweeping statement that if you don't need financial assistance don't join the military. The idiocy of that statement rests on its own merit. I never used vulger language with you...I called you an idiot. The truth sometimes hurts but it doesn't make it any less the truth. Just deal with it and move on.Somehow you think I'm upset at some perceived criticism of the military you made. Not at all. The military can be its own worst critic. We thrive on criticism and use it to improve performance in the future. Had you criticised some specific aspect of the military I would have read the criticism on its merits and agreed or disagreed with you. My criticism was your ignorant condemnation of those who serve their country and your petty demeaning and crassly arrogant comment about "taking orders from people not as bright as you, then join". The ignorance and arrogance of your remark rankled me. Your apparant dedication to making money to become a member of the "idle rich" speaks volumes to your character or lack of same. Some people put service to country ahead of service to self. It is evident that you are not one of them. Comp many times in your life, people are going to judge you. I judged you an idiot. Maybe one day someone will judge you otherwise....maybe not. Other people's judgements really shouldn't upset you. You know who you are. You can say over and over and over to yourself, "I am not an idiot like Beach thinks I am". Very soon you will believe it and all will be right with your world. Just keep laughing Comp and you'll get through it. Your comment about military dictatorships and criticism only reinforced my belief that you truly are attempting to engrave your idiocy in stone. But keep laughing and saying, "I am not an idiot... Beach is wrong!" In fact I want you to go outside right now and yell, "BEACH IS WRONG I AM NOT AN IDIOT!!!!" I'm sure your neighbors will agree with you. In any case Comp...just keep making lots and lots of money so you can "be all that you can be" as a member of the "idle rich". And most importantly keep working on those sideline cheers everyone always needs a cheerleader. Beach

Hey guys! Let's end the bickering now. Everyone's stated their points. If anyones got any more suggestions or comments for me, I'd be thrilled to hear them.I'd like to hear more about maybe what CMP matches are like. I'd also like to know if anyone knows anything about MOS 45B (other than what it says on goarmy.com).Lets not turn this thread into a pissing match.

compententone, you imply that a person who is not interested in money shouldn't join the military. It has been my experience that the majority of ex-military men and women prosper in their careers today and, in fact, earn significantly more than their civilian peers. I own a company that frequently hires contractors and I will take an old Marine any day of the week over Joe-College.I also think that Beach has hit the nail on the head. If you think his reaction is crude now, I wonder what his reaction would be if you said what you typed to his face.I'm not saying I know how you feel about the military. I'm saying your posts have made you sound foolish.

comp:This will be a little exercise in something called parsing. You said " .you decide you want to "take orders" from others who are "not as bright" as you are."'Take orders from' means someone deemed administratively or bureaucratically your superior is directing you. And you consider them 'not as bright' as the person being directed. It follows then that anyone superior is not as bright and it further follows that the most intelligent IS the lowest ranking person on staff. Patently absurd and for you to stand by it after the fallacy is pointed out makes you an idiot. And if you argue that it was not pointed out to you we have to conclude that you cannot even understand what you wrote, which makes you a stupid idiot. I don't know but I doubt that you have ever served in the military and if you have I am afraid you were a disgrace to the uniform. Now go ask your wife to forgive you for impersonating a man and leave us in peace.Clouder..

Bullzeye,Dont know if you read my post earlier, but I was brought up as a 45B in the 82nd Airborne Division. The MOS, at E-6 turns into a 45K, which means that you are repairing a WIDE array of weapons such as tanks, artillery, sights, and so on. You can, indeed, jump out of airplanes while holding this MOS(I have 52 jumps) and can also do alot of neat things and see some different weapons.idsman75 seems to have touched on most of the benefits that the army has to offer. To tell the truth, you would have the best chance of getting THIS MOS guaranteed with the army. If Airborne school is your cup of tea, then ensure that it gets put in your contract.(however, at APG,MD they will ask for airborne volunteers) but dont rely on that. get it in writing. You will not get that from any other service. once more,i will be more than happy to talk to you about this MOS one on one.You never said anything about your health/weight before, so dont get your hopes up too early (cant believe you werent pre qualled yet!!!! (idsman, youre slipping)) my email is :r_cantor@msn.com

Bullzeye--I'm going to research 45B. I know that my commander is going to ask me why I am asking specifically about that MOS. I'm going to have to tell him that it's an internet inquiry. In order to do that, I'll need to know what state you are from. What state are you from Bullzeye?

I pre-qualled him via AOL Instant Messenger last night. I also probed TEAMS-T and determined his DBM's and put them in rank order.
