House was broke into today.

Was out of the house today. When i got home everybody was elsewhere. I went to open the front door and it had the chain on it. I knew something was wrong. Right then i should have went to the back yard. I had a pair of limb loppers on the porch and after a few minutes i was able to cut the chain to get in. Every light in the house was on and every door was open. All the drawers in the house were also open. A quick check to make sure there was nobody still in the house. Second check was the gun room. No gun safes pryed open or missing hidden guns. To tools missing from garage, but the door was kicked in. Nothing missing from shop either. A couple dollars change was gone. My wifes PS3 was gone. I have all my meds still. They were moved, not taken. I have fixed the chain on the front door and a temp fix on the garage door till tomorrow. Will be adding a alarm to the garage and shop. The thief left thru the back door and kicked a whole in my wooden fence to get away. Cop came and took a report. Told me unless there is a dead body, they don't do finger prints. I think it was some teenagers, but who knows. I did see a couple of those church people who ride bicycles around my house when i came home. We were lucky this time. I will be packing all the time. Rotten Barfturds.

Very Lucky.

I am retired and will be waiting. I don't go out much and we live in a area where it is mostly older folks with very few kids. We have a lot of people that walk down our streets wearing backpacks and don't look like they belong in our neighbourhood.

Hide or park your car somewhere else and just hunker down in your house with a good book and a gun.
If you can get some empty game system boxes, put them out on the next garbage day next to the can, maybe even a day before.
It's legal to hunt over bait, just don't trip up and answer the phone or the doorbell.

Yes you better get 2 or 3 cameras and be damn careful about the gun. You could get into more trouble than you want. Even if the shooting is justified you could wind up in deep doo doo in civil court.

The courts will turn them loose if they are caught. What's the use in arresting these thugs if they're just going to turn them loose with a slap on the hand.

If someone catches one of these punks breaking in they ought to just rob them and then beat them within an inch of their life. If they hurt someone during the break in or do any damage they need to be tied up in the basement for a few days and beat the hell out of'em a few times a day. Then after about a week or so pour them a pair of concrete cowboy boots and take them on a fishing trip.

    Sorry for your misfortune.
Maybe lucky the house was unoccupied, for everyone's sake.
Also fortunate the losses were minimal.
They were there when you got home, seems to me.
They chained the front door to slow you down, then made a hasty retreat.

Sounds like they're testing the wire and seeing what's there. Didn't take the pharm so I guess what you got they can't get high on. As I type this they're looking on youtube on how to get in to them safes.

While going the alarm route look in to cameras that link up to your cell phone. If you got old and janky PC rebuild it to monitor the cameras. Then hide the PC in a safe spot.

But on the other hand, if they DO come back and get attacked by the dog, you'll get sued half way to hell because you publicly admitted knowing you had a mean dog. Not right, but it happens.[:(]

Check your phone caller ID to see if anybody called before the break in. Sometimes they do that to see if your home. Get a trail cam.

Many, many burglaries are solved by fingerprints. When I was working they computerized the fingerprint data. A Department that doesn't collect evidence is short changing you. One of the big differences between San Diego Police and San Diego Sheriff was we lifted any fingerprint possible. The Sheriff had a much higher closer rate than the PD just for that reason.

By the way it is much cheaper in the long run to solve those burglaries than to keep taking reports that go nowhere.

Just picked up my car thurs in Florida. Man had a gated drive with signs on it. Guard Dog.. Beware of Dog.. and some in spanish. Gate was open and I stopped going thru gate , went to the truck/trailer and text him.. are your dogs put up?.. then entered premise by walking down his long drive. Can't tell me that insurance companies do not insure dogs.

Not so. Insurance co. fully aware of the dog. They evaluate each dog and the record of that dog.

No reason for me to give you personal information about my homeowners. I do not allow tenants to have pets on the premises. I could make them sign a waiver and allow them to insure themselves or handle their own business. However pets do damage to property and also make me change out carpets when they leave because some new tenant would have allergies.

No, no, I didn't miss companies that insure dogs under liability,,,,,,,,,remember, we're talking about a known 'mean dog' ,,,,,,,,your words not mine.

In response to my prior question,,,,,,,,give me the name of your insurance company(not your agent or personal info) and I'll contact underwriting for a definitive written answer. Fair enough ?????

Why would I do that? I had a mean dog till he died. Not one problem with the insurance. They knew he had bit. Period. Not one problem.

    [:D][:0],,,,,,,,,C&P,,,,,,

In 2002, dog-bite claims cost insurers almost $350 million, and accounted for a full fourth (1/4) of all liability claims.
Maybe so but they saved them Billions by being a deterrent to crooks and wannabe crooks, the amount of unknown (un-measureable) savings I would think would out-weigh their payout by a long shot, of course the insurance companies wouldn't admit that fact, it would hurt their ability to raise premiums [;)]

"Empirical evidence" & "stats" [:D] words only Insurance people throw around to increase premiums on people while trumping up numbers they sometime pull out of the air for their advantage (rate increases)....... with the approval of the "crooked" State Insurance Commissioners of course. I don't pull numbers from the air , just use general terms and No I can't nor will try to prove anything but I do feel dogs prevent untold numbers of burglaries saving insurance companies a lot of money, their claims payouts are a drop in the bucket what dogs "unknowingly" save them. Proving an unknown is impossible, but I'm sure you've got stats on that subject too [;)]. Another thought, it's a well known fact that Cops respect dogs protecting homes, I think potential burglars do too, sorry, again no proof on my part [:)].......Bye

So, you don't want the risk of pet(s) but you think an ins. co. wants to insure the risk of a known 'mean' dog with the potential of a million dollar lawsuit,,,,,,,,,,C'mon Gary, I know you're smarter than this.

I have reinforced the back door and added a alarm. I am adding barbed wire to the only short fence in my back yard. Pistol safe has a alarm already with self contained batteries. Computer / safe room will be getting a alarm also. I now pack everywhere i go including my house and garage. I live in a nice area in Vancouver, but a lot of the trash from Portland is coming across the bridges to do bad things here. I am using car alarms with micro switches and motion detectors.

    Ripped off in Vancouver.
