SAWZ- It is solely a gunsmith shop. I do not think the other Smith I talked to will see things my way. Both Smiths on the premises were there when I discussed this with them.
As far as losing the barrel, I really do not care. Sure it is slimy, but the barrel had been replaced, and I did not need it. And the other guy who wanted it, would just assume buy a new barrel for the price the smith charged. When I taled to the guy who was supposed to get the barrel, it almost seemed like he was relieved-I think he had second thoughts, and wanted a new barrel anyway.

Several years ago I had a friend, who bought a new pick up, with the agreement that the dealer would repaint the inside of the box. The dealer repainted the inside of the box and billed him for it. He refused to pay and the dealer turned it over for collections. My friend went and got a 4x5 foot piece of plywood, and made a sign that told his story. He made it a point to drive by the dealership twice a day, with the sign in the back of the truck, honk his horn and wave. Soon the dealer was calling him complaining about his harassment. Friend offered to sell him the sign for the cost of the paint job. Maybe your gunsmith would like to buy a sign!

Salzo - I can understand you not wanting to take this any further. It looks like everything has worked out with both you and your in-law. Btw, did you get your sight back?

Too bad there is not a way to prevent this from happening to the next unsuspecting guy, or is there?

Boomerang- No I didnt get the sights back. But again, I do not care about it. Ithaca had sent me an extra set of sights, because the new barrel they sent me had a small chip on the sight. But what is really infuriating about the whole thing, is the person who wanted the barrel didnt even care about the sights, because he was planning on using a scope. He only decided to have the sight put on, because he was under the impression it would not cost much more. This whole thing could have been avoided if the sights was not an issue-which when you get right down to it, the sights werent even necessary.

just ask the smith to split the difference with you on the overcharge that way he loses part and you lose part but your only out half and you have the barrel.I know it is not right he charged you more than the quote but at least you will get out of paying the whole overcharge. NEVER USE HIM AGAIN AND TELL YOUR FRIEND'S NOT TO.If he will not do it tell him you are going to blackball him and report him to the BBB and take him to small claims court, also tell him you are going to call your local TV station troubleshooters=TV gastapo and that will make him LOSE a lot of business. He may very well then be eating out of his undershorts.
