SHTF Gun Question

OK, let's say polite society has gone tits up.

And now you're on the move, or in a defensive postion, or something in between.

Realistically, you're probably going to have 1 handgun, and 1 long gun.

out of your collection which 2 would you keep, assuming you can't carry ammo and mags for more than 2 total

Please keep it to guns YOU CURRENTLY HAVE, not guns you WISHED you had.

MY choices...

Colt AR15A2 Govt. Carbine
Colt M1991A1 pistol

you?

    No need for anything fancy.
    S&W M60 with 3" barrel:
    SWModel60-43inch.jpg

One of these three AKs (I don't know which one yet):

Okay, lets narrow it to one of these three:

I would stay home and keep access to everything I have, including other important things like, food, water, shelter. Also important would be that it would keep me out of the sights of people who have one rifle, one pistol, and are on the move.

Keeping with the gun theme in general though I would estimate that one of my 2 22LR rifles (Ruger 10/22 and something that resembles a Marlin model 60) would come in most useful for shooting rabbits, squirrels, and birds. Besides deer and protection I think those would be the most important ones.

Great thing about my situation is my bug out position has my collection on site. So the question for me is what am I taking to get there. AK underfolder and a P1 P38 with two mags. Underfolder because I expect to get there via my SUV but am prepared to walk too. 60 Miles.

I have 9mm pistols and rifles.

While they're not the most powerful round, they're cheap and if I run out of my stash I can always steal more.....

    For me

    M1A
    G19

    The wife

    Stoeger double defense in 20ga
    sp101

Am sure a 22 would be jammed in some where.

Part of the reason we are set up to stay right were we are. Not having to worry about what to carry.

My Stag Model 3 with Eotech 512, and since size and carry comfort will take a back seat to capacity, my G17.

That said, I'm not bugging out anywhere. I'd stay here and fight the fight at my house.

Wouldn't even think of bugging out. Why leave more here then I could even think of taking to where?? I know if the SHTF my kids will be coming to my house where they'd have a fighting chance.

OK, assume you HAVE to move around, that is the question.

    And 2 guns ONLY.

It isn't that hard of a question[:)]

    Taurus 92. . . Yes a taurus. 9mm

AK redheaded step child varient. Its a. 223. only because a 30round magazine on anything would have a benifeted intimidation factor.

A 22SA would be more practicle.

    I would have a Mosin Nagant 91/30 and a M1911A1.

    The wife a Marlin 981T and a S&W642.

I think that option would work well.

That way I have a rifle that fires a great combat round and there is plenty around, a great combat proven pistol, my wife has the small game getter and a pistol that can fire reg. thee types of rounds (with moon clips of course[8D][;)])

I think moving around is silly, assuming you don't live in downtown Detroit.

I think the guys who sell bug out bags have fostered the notion that leaving your home makes any sense.

Me: Kimber .45 ACP and Ruger Mini-14
    Spouse: S&W .22 revolver and Mossberg 500c

However...I'd be packing two sidearms...the second would be a S&W .357. My wife would also have her S&W Model 442.

    HA! You changed the rules!

Ok... Since there is no way I would find a better place to be than my own house... and assuming my property doesn't get taken over as a command post and artillery base/helli field or something... It would be a bad call for me to move to my buddies house since he has no room, no extra food and water, and no extra anything... Sooo assuming my buddy is not pigheaded enough to stay in his house and moves to mine, I hope he would bring with him...

His Ruger GP100 6" because it would go very nicely with my Marlin .357 mag levergun, and his Ruger P89 which would go well with my Kel-Tec Sub2000 (though a Glock would be better because of magazine interchangeability). I'm speaking ammo wise in both of these matches. I like the idea of having one big supply of one ammo rather than 2 supplies and being forced to leave one gun out if it goes empty. I know those are both handguns but he's got a wife and a teenage kid and they can carry whatever else is required to fulfill the requirements of the OP.

If I had to go to get him and didn't know if I was going to be able to make it back I would be forced to grab the 10/22 and Walther P22, as many bricks of 22LR as I could and a couple bandoleers of 12ga for his shotgun. He doesn't have much ammo on hand so the bricks would give the most bangs for the pound and he lives at the edge of a gulf course with a deer overpopulation problem so the 12ga ammo would be better than .357 or 9mm.

I though of the same thing, but then again, what if we are dealing with Zombies? I would have to take my 22 AR with suppressor, uses 60 grain SSS, really quiet and hand gun would probably be my 5-7 [:D]
