ATF:It's your perogative as to exactly how careful you want to be with any given firearm. But my personal preference is in guns that arent totally precise, but deliver total reliability even when treated roughly. As opposed to a gun that advertises total precision, but isnt reliable if you cant baby it all the time.Kind of the difference between a 4x4 and a BMW, I guess.

I think this discussion took a few turns from the original topic, which was a shooter objecting to someone else dropping the slide on HIS pistol, if the weapon belongs to You-You can do whatever You want with it, It's Yours, but if the piece belongs to someone else, You should have the courtesy to respect His wishes.I have done the dirty deed with My pistols, and will most likely do it again sometime, but I won't do it to Yours,if the firearm is damaged or not is moot.

I guess Dr. Pig did not see my tongue stuck firmly in my cheek when I made my "secret" slide-dropping post. My point was that this is much ado about nothing in most cases, unless it is someone else's gun, then it becomes a courtesy issue.

The last two or three posts summarize the issue very well. Do with your own guns as you want. Do with the guns of others nothing rough without being given specific permission. I will continue to ease my slides forward on empty chambers, and others will do as they please on their guns.

May this topic rest in peace.

As the starter of this topic it should be fitting in a "complete circle" sort of way that I finish it. As judgeColt said, you should never do anything rough with somebody else's firearm. My whole original point was that I had no idea this was considered rough handling or inappropriate treatment of an automatic, be it a 1911 or otherwise. I'll definately be more careful in the future, and if I'm ever able to afford a Wilson or Les Baer, I'll even let somebody drop the slide on it as penence

Politicians, like diapers, should be changed often and for the same reason.
