Skydive- Now that I have instructed you on how to attack a tank with a log, I will address your original question. I think you have made two good buys, with the .357 and the .22 rifle. If the crap hit the fan you would not want to go anywhere without a rifle, and you would want to have a pistol as well. Shotguns are great, I don't know anything about them. But you do need a big rifle. You need something that you can get lots of ammo for cheap, and this means milsurp. I like the .30 cal. The .308 is good. A semi-auto is desirable if you can afford it. I like the bolt action guns. I have a Finnish M39. This is a Mosin-Nagant, about the same ballistics as the .308. The Finns got the Russian M91 and rebuilt it with new sights, stock, and barrel. These are extremely accurate rifles and very reliable. Lots of milsurp ammo available, spam cans of 440 rds of combloc for $45. Of course this is corrosive but no big deal to clean. I have an affinity for the commie weapons. They build effective battle weapons-not pretty, not built to real tight tolerances, but they work under battle conditions. You can get a nice M39 from Wholesale Guns and Ammo for $180.
DancesWithSheep, Yes. No. No. No. No. I answered your questions, will you answer mine?
We recently spent a week in DC checked every time we went in any building that was considered a potential terrorist target. However, it was my choice to enter, I wasn't forced to go, I exercised my rights. And nowhere is air travel protected by our Bill of rights, all the gyrations there are inconveniences don't want it? Don't fly! I have not read any of those materials, have you? But your a smart person and know that legislation does not equate law. Our ELECTED officials will make that determination (did you vote?). I have heard about the phone taps but that equipment (multi-line, scanning) has been available for years so has the desire to use it. Is this good? No. But again, remove the "phone" and what good is the tap? What I'm trying to say is the phone is a convenience, it's use is not a right. If the courts find such conversations are not a violation of our privacy, don't use the phone. Any serious business I have, it's done in person with people I know.
Skydive, I understand your frustration. But what you describe is an inconvenience not a loss of your rights. I would think that wherever you travel to for Skydiving would have such devices for sale. I must admit I'm a bit surprised such devices were allowed on passenger aircraft prior to 911 due to it's designed use i.e ignite and burn. I know you said it was small to burn a small line but anything like that shipped FedEx would be a Dangerous Good and treated as such and that's in a Cargo plane.
dads-freehold, I'll take your word for it. Maybe you can tell me did the students seek and secure permission to have a demonstration? I mean it is a Private College, so to seek and get permission to protest should be expected right? I agree with what you are saying about the 1/4", but in the eyes of the FBI, in this case, it was all they needed. What happened there is terrible, Horrichi (sp) the killer of Mrs. Weaver should be prosecuted for murder and so should his supervisor and his too. Mr. Weaver himself regrets chopping those guns.
I agree, it's an inconvenience, but it's something the airlines have allowed for years. The FAA is familiar with the devices and their functionality and actually has required their use in some situations in skydiving (which is regulated by the FAA).
But I have two points. First, they are all made in Germany and I'm guessing someone doesn't swim across for sale in the US
Second, I am jumping out of a plane at 14,000 feet. When I pull I know my gear will open, I don't buy questionable guns and I don't buy questionable Skydiving equipment.
Rental gear, which is available at a lot of these drop zones is expensive and very questionable.
Every so often, I like to stick my head out the window, look up, and smile for a satellite picture.
I think this posting has started to leak brainwashed moronic scalar wave signals, so I am looking for my tinfoil hat and some of that Lorenzos Oil to see if it can retard the brain damage caused by them
Stupidity EW waves!!!!!....
Duuuuaaaaaahhww ,,,wahlll drollllll!!!!! driP! drip!
Skydive I appreciate what your saying about your gear. All I'm saying is I'm surprised by the FAA allowing them on commercial passenger aircraft in the first place, even pre 9.11. This is based on FedEx experience nothing more. As far as where the device is being made matters not, somebody imports them into the USA. (I doubt they "swim" it over ) So my thought was if it was something you could buy and install at the jump location it would save the Airport hassle and you could be using your gear. Tell me, is this an expensive device? Can you access it from the outside of the packed parachute? Do you know where can I see a picture of one?
greetings, to 5db , kent state isn't and never has been a "private" institution , it is a state funded college, that is a "public" university. to answer your other question, i honestly don't know. but at the time i was a psyc student at spjc in st pete fla. and i have some knowledge of how it worked at the time( mid 60s). a ralley (protest) would be posted and announced for usually a week to ten days hence. the admin or authorities had that long to cancell it or let it go on. at the time i only know of one that was cancelled. now i don't know for sure if this is the plan that went down in kent state, ijust don't know. respt submitted dads-freehold
Having never attended college it is in my ignorance of the subject matter that I thought "public school" meant you could not be denied attendance. Where higher education such as college you could be denied thus making it private. If accepted are expected to pay tuition, buy books etc.. Not trying to be ignorant about it, I just am. I wonder at what point authorities (whoever that was) decided it was time to use gas and gave the ANG OIC the go ahead?
More to the point of this threads subject, I feel it's un-wise for anyone to get a survivalist mindset stocking ammo, guns, food etc. be paranoid about the US Government then get on WWWboards and blab about it. A guy wanting to protect his family and property is one thing. Feeling you have to take up arms against your government is another. And I'm willing to bet some of these posters on this thread aren't even registered to vote but by golly have the attitude of "pry my gun out of my cold dead fingers cuz I'm killing a bunch of you first" Is Bovine Scatology.
And the thought that "one day you're going to have to either defend yourself and your Liberty or sit on your * in servitude" means what? It's just our own individual Liberty we should worry about not our fellow Americans??? Did anyone here take up arms and go to Waco to help those civilians in their time of need? How about Ruby ridge? What is it going to take to get you to do so? When the Boogie Man busts in YOUR door? More Bovine Scatology. The US Gov. is not going to make the announcement "It's US against you and we are going to take your Liberties" on national TV. The Gov. will take as many of our freedoms that WE will allow it to, one small step at a time. In my humble opinion the only way to keep this in check is being involved in the election process. If your not voting, you have already lost and are shackled.
I don't fault anyone who says we may be losing some freedoms in this mess. But I think we are gaining in other areas, like CCWs.
My one certainty in all of this is, if you don't like the way the Republican administration is handling gun rights, you're gonna HATE the way a Democrat administration handles them. So I've GOT to keep voting Republican.
I DO VOTE, and I have my bumper stickers for the car -- I'M THE NRA, AND I VOTE. They tick some folks off by the way -- I once had a woman desperate to pass me who never did get around -- she wound up pulling into a parking lot to avoid riding behind a Life Member of the NRA. Funny, but those are the only signs back there, so I know that's what set her off.
As I said, if you don't like Bush, you'd positively hate Gore. So better stick with the winners and hope people like Ashcroft keep telling the JD how to interpret the Second Amendment. It's still our best realistic hope, at this point. And join the NRA; that's the other thing you can do, besides vote, if you don't want to be a sideline-sitter.

I'd say u need to have a readily accesable firearm at all times that will give u enough bullets to fight ur way to a position where ur real guns at...
Get a sidearm, with lots of magazines and ammo.
A combat rifle, with even more magazines and more ammo.
A nice room clearing shotgun, with lots of ammo.
And a small stock of cleaning supplies.
Also some body armor, and maybe a helmet, and maybe even an NBC gass mask wouldn't hurt. (make sure to have lots of replacement filters)
Keep an emergency kit, like u'd have for a snow in or hurricane, such as canned food, or MRE's and bottled water. Don't forget personal hygen products, and extra emercency clothing.
Oh yea, and lots of condoms, u'd be supprised the various uses, other than the obvious, u can use them little things for. Water sealing magazines, muzzle covers, ammo storage dry bags, ect.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
