Hey Bee I was on the way from Fort Myers Beach to the Everglades on vacation one year and stopped in a gas station to buy some gas not knowing anything about Swamp Buggies, I am from Kansas all we have is guys in hot rod trucks hunt'n "otes" any way the lady said "are you heading to the Swamp Buggy Races" being the kind of guy that likes anything that goes fast I couldn't resist,I think Lonnies Chesser won the race that year but my favorite part was when the queen was shall we say "Crowned" man did it work wonders for her dress and dew! Still a fan to this day and watch them when they are on TNN. By the way what are you doing up so late? I have already been in trouble once over this computer today with the wife unit but I need to do a little research on the Gurkhas then go to bed!

280 - perhaps this will help your definition: NH, 6 months of snow, 6 months of repairing frost-damaged roads.

O.K. Bee here we go. Sit down and load that pipe with a little Sir Walter Raleigh, put on White Bird by Lynard Skynard shift the Recliner into high gear and listen up. This is back about 26-27 years ago. First real vacation my new wife and I ever took. Went to Disney World in Orlando-Then to Fort Myers Beach and from there headed out to the Everglades and the Keys. Had always wanted to see the everglades since I was a litte Kid and saw the movie Swamp Fever.Although I think it was about the Okeefenokee Swamp in Georgia. Well on the way found out about the Swap Buggy Races that you already know about. After that my wife gets a real bad Pain in her head so we go to an emergency room along the way and they can't find anything wrong with her so its on to the Florida Keys and then back to the Everglades. Well we get as far as 7 mile bridge and both freak out with Claustrophobia over it, All the time she is still dying with this pain no one can figure out. At the South end of the 7 mile bridge We pulled over to a phone booth and callled back to the Motel in Fort Myers Beach and asked the guy if we could still get our room back. So we Turn around and head back to Fort Myers Beach without ever going out into the everglades, just remimber a restaurant with an airplane on the roof....Get back to Ft. Myers and the guy at the motel asked us what had happened and we told him about the wifes pain in her head. He says "I bet she has an abcessed tooth" and he call his dentist the next morning so I take her to the dentist and he starts a root canal. I get her back to the Motel to recover and I decide to take a walk down the Beach while she is mending up. Come across a guy who was from Wichita that used to be a Teacher at Wichita State University and had left the rat Race and was Renting Catamarans on the Beach. So It looked like fun to me so I inquired about it and he asked me if I had ever sailed before and I kinda streched the truth a litte and told him that I had. but he would have to show me how to operate this one.Well he spent about 20-30 minutes showing me how to operate it and cut me loose. Well I was kind of a daring young man and off I went way out into the gulf of Mexico. I get out there and I am having the time of my life, Porpoise's swimming along side the boat and all. I can see that the sun is going to set and I better get back to the beach. Serious problem, the boat wouldn't head that way no matter what I did and no one had explained Tacking to me so I am in a heap of dookie. but at least I am heading somewhere toward the shore but not where I want to go. The sun is about to set and here comes this boat right at where I am. its the guy that had rented me the boat and he is really Pi$$ed. So he ties a rope onto the boat and pulls me back to shore. I explaind to him that I was having so damn much fun I had flat lost track of time. O.K. now this is 2 lies I have told the guy. Well we got back and I paid him and walked backdown the beach.to the motel. The wife was worried about me but I had no way of calling her. I explained how much fun i had. so the next day we go back and the guy lets me go out again except with some additional lessons that included tacking. Now I am Seaman First class Automan! anyway we had such a good time sailing the catamaran for 3 days that I fell in love with the ole Sol-Cat the guy at the rental said it was an old sail boat and he would sell it to me for 500 bucks. If I could have figured a way to tie it to the top of the car I would have bought it..Later in life my sister bought a 27ft. clipper and I learned a little more about sailing. and at that time realized the guy in Florida new that I had been a big B.S.'er If you have any understanding about the things at all the principle is the same just more sails and more complications.....End of Story P.S. to this day I get a little edgy when I think about what would have happened to me if that thing would have turned over. had no way of knowing how to get it back upright. Well I am much more mature now and just do minor stupid stuff....

O.K. Bee I went over to my uncles house today and he gave me an original "Stone" Knife its called a "Bird and Trout" Skinning knife. There is an old superstition that when some one gives you a knife you have to give them a penny so you don't cut the friendship so I did. Man I am more proud of this new knive than any of my guns, because the "Old Woodsman" gave it to me...He is 82 years old....OTTO now don't bee keeping me up all night again I have to help baby sit with my youngest Granddaugter tomorrow. she is 20 months old and has PAPAW wrapped around her finger...Good night

Hey Bee I must have put you to sleep with that story. But you won't belive it right after I sent it there was an hours worth of Lynard Skynard on the ole Sony Radio so I had to stay up and listen to that. I am beginning to think I would have made a good Rebel...I think here in Kansas we shot both Yankees and Rebels no one makes any boasts about our humble beginnings HA! I can tell you for sure there is not any Gators here! you may wake up in the morning and find some laying out in the snow in that ole boys yard. Besides is it true that originally those Swamp Buggies were for hunting Gators?

I don`t know the difference between "lake effect" and any other...but I once saw sleet,in West Virginia, that was in the shape of perfect stars..like the ones in Campbells 'Chicken and stars soup'It was very strange to me,I told my old neigbor guy,and he just said.."We never pay attention ta stuff like that up in here".Auto, they built those swamp buggies to deer hunt, gator hunt, etc.Never did tell you that my dad killed more gators than anybody..did I?Did all his skinnin` with the little brown handled Barlow pocket knife..218
