Okay, everything I have posted has been 100% right. And if being right is being "arrogant", then I am one arrogant person. I am glad that I dont have as many street fights as some people on this forum does. However, my instructor was world ranked in Full Contact Karate(Number 2 in the world) before he started Brasilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has been in enough streetfights to last two lifetimes. When I train with him, he flat out tells me what works in a street fight and what doesnt. Yes, there is a place for striking in a street fight, but the amount of time you can strike before you clinch, and with your opponent moving in on you, you have a very short amount of time to land knock out punch, or kick to the nuts. I think that for Mixed Martial Arts competition that boxing and kickboxing is good to learn, but in a street fight, Brasilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, or Wrestling is your best bet. Why? According to LAPD reports, 95% of ALL streetfights end up in a clinch and on the ground. So that tells me that 95% of guys make it into the a clinch, without getting knocked out. If you know how to fight from the clinch, then the fight is all yours. However, if all you know is boxing where you are expected to break after getting in a clinch, or only train TKD, Karate, or other striking arts of the such that dont teach you how to fight from the clinch, then its not good for you. Your not going to stop a guy from taking you down if he knows how to do takedowns or fight from the clinch, and you dont.
This "should" be my last post on here unless somebody still thinks Severn beat Royce. I see that 4GodandCountry deleted all his post being that I cant seem to find any on this thread. I'm just wondering where is my 20.00?
People do martial arts for different reasons. I have trained in several martial arts and my wife and I have owned a martial arts school for over 10 years. We have about 100 students and run classes 6 days a week. Actually I don't teach anymore, blew out both knees, my wife is the one that still loves the art. She has taken world champion for several years in the sparing competition. The main thing that I have learned is to be aware of your surroundings and hold your head high. Punks look for weakness and are drawn to it. There are several zones as all of you probably already know and knowing how to fight on the inside and on the ground is very important to one's security. If I were looking for a place to train I would not worry much about the styles, because they all offer something different, I would look at the instructors and the students and try to figure out if you fit in. Son of Iron Sights, the adults you are addressing on this forum know that no one is 100%right. Your attitude that you are probably impresses the kids at the high school but it isn't impressing anyone on this forum and can get you hurt in the streets. In Shido Ryu we were taught that a master of Japanese martial arts must be humble but in the Gracie school humility is obviously not being taught.

i was a wrestler ans took 3 yrs of aikido from another guy on my boat.the ufc's pretty much proved that a man that can operate on the ground wil kick bruce lees * every day of the week.mark coleman and dan severn showed all those "martial artists" what greco roman wrestling was all about.i aint a bad *,i may not be able to kick your * but i guarentee i can wrap you up and keep you to occupied with popping joints and leg rides and maybe an elbow or a wrist lock or two to keep you from kicking mine

Martial arts effectiveness is kinda like choosing a gun. There are
universal truths, but there is also something to be said about
choosing the style that is right for you.
one illustration from UFC (maybe the son of iron sights can tell us
which one, cuz I don't remember)
I remember a guy representing Ninjitsu was a fill in for someone that
got hurt. He was fighting a large man who practiced a dicipline that I thought would not compare. The Ninjitsu guy ran straight at the large man...got taken down....and for the rest of the short fight the large man stood over the fallen and pummeled him in the face till unconsious. So much for Ninjitsu...but the point is, it was not the Ninjitsu's fault.
Not trying to discredit, just offering a pov of having the right combinations.
I myself have taken American TKD (Joon Rhee/Chuck Ku Do) from a 5 time World Champ Kickboxer Scott "Conan" Mincey. He made sure to give us street situations to consider. I thankfully have never had to strike anyone in fear or passion. unless you count scuffles with my older brother when we were in Highschool! I have moved to Los Angeles, and when I pick up some cash I will be looking for some grappling forms to compliment.
That's my 2 cents
