I use to grow a lot of tobacco (12000 pounds a year) Im learned real quick that I didn't want to use any form of tobacco when my dad died from using it. Also, the chickens would roost over the hanging tobacco and there would be a lot of black chicken dodo in it. Rats would build nest in it and at the warehouse lots of rat dodo would get swept up and tobacco products made out of it. I have seen people use the leaves for toilet paper and throw them back into the pile. The dog come along and water down the side of the tobacco. I could go on and on.If this doesn't make you think abot quiting then go ahead and burn another rat turd.
I've been trying to quit for almost 2 weeks now. My Doc has me on a system they used in the Old Soldier's Home, (a retirement home for old vets with no one left to look out for them), these guys were mostly 50 and 60 year long smokers in their 70's and 80's who would smoke with one hand and breathe O2 with the other. The regime is as follows:WellButerin once a day for 1 week, then, 2x a day for 1 week. Reduce the level of nicotine intake as much as possible.(Over those 2 weeks or so, I have reduced from a pack/pack and a half a day to half a pack a day or so and from regulars to lights, that's where I am at now.)This Saturday I start on the patch and no more smokes. For 3-4 weeks I will be on the patches stepping down in levels, as well as taking WellButerin 2x a day. After this, No patch for 1 week, WellButerin 2x a day and the just WellButerin once a day for 1 week thereafter. It's working so far, I can go longer and longer each day in between smokes, and have set goals, i.e. one hour after eating I'll smoke, no cigarette with my Friday night beer, increasing time in between smokes by 5-10 minutes each day. It's working so far!Much luck to ya Evil!

Imagine that, I always thought the tabacco leaves where stored where vermin did'nt get to them. Now no one can convince me NOW, that they sanitze them before rolling them into, or chopping them up for chawing.A friend told me once when he worked in a cigar factory, he would find big ole worms and he would take and role them up nice and tight, then mash them, into them cigars. That was all I had to hear, to keep far from them things.Anyway, hope everybody that wants to, succeeds in their endeavor to QUIT. July 4th 1998, I quit a 3 pack a day Marlboro habit. At one point it had been almost 5 packs a day. I tried so, many times before that day I can't count them. I tried patches, gum, lifesavers etc. I got up that morning saw 2 cigs left in the pack. Smoked one and told myself I'd keep the last one till the day I died. I just came accross it the other day. I just quit cold the last time. Keeping the last one helped alot. I put the money away for a year and used it for a house down payment..Just tell yourself you're done and do it. Start putting the money away for the little ones education or something like that. It works.WOODS

"Chew for thought"You CAN do it! Niccotine is one of the most naturally addictive chemicals. Tobacco companies DELIBERATELY enhanced niccotine to increase smokers DEPENDANCY!Targeted & marketed advertising, and product branding(names) to groups of all ages, income, and life styles. Ever wonder why they advertise little in outdoor magazines on cigs as compared to chew & snuff? DELIBERATE plans to GET you, and make it HARD to quit. You CAN do it!Smoking also has a psychological affect,...keeping the mind busy. That being something is always being done(a movement or motion) such as the act of lighting to the twirling, blowing smoke different ways, etc., etc. It actually creates a "habit".Rule of thumb,..it can take as little as 10 days to make a habit, and over 100 to break it. One reason eating gets substituted. It is action, and provides a good, pleasurable feeling. You CAN do it!Started smoking in 6th grade. Camels, Pall Mell. Stopped around 10th grade. My fiancee smoked, and stopped before we got married. She was a *#^*~ for a while, but absolutely fabulous now. Especially when holding her, and kissing. She no longer stinks. You CAN do it!More encouragement: Kids will do in excess of what we do in moderation. Translation,-If you smoke a little, they will smoke more. You are getting & keeping yourself healthy for your wife, and children for your families future. You will be a positive role model. Look at all the GB posters you don't know, some you will never meet that are pulling for you!!!!!Mind over wasted $$, bad health. You CAN do it!

Hang tough guys. Just grit your teeth and get through it. The first week is the hardest.I quit cold in 1969. Never had the desire for a cigarette since. I do miss a good cigar though. Which reminds me of a story.Back in the early 80's, I was doing a bit of acting and one part called for me smoke a cigar. That was OK. Just remember not to inhale. All through rehearsals I just stuck the unlit cigar in my mouth. Opening night, however, was a different story. I lit the cigar and out of reflex, INHALED! I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE! Tears came to my eyes, I fought back the urge to cough and turned away from the audience. Luckily, I didn't have any lines for a while. OK, not very entertaining. I guess you had to be there.Mudge the thespian

I dipped for years and gave it up for three years a while back. Then one night I went out and bought a tin just to have "one" dip. That one dip turned into another three years of chewing, but I quit again six months ago and haven't touched it since.I found the 90 second trick to be very helpful. The nicotine cravings were very powerful, but they only seemed to last for 90 seconds. If I could, once I felt a craving coming on, immerse myself in some job or reading or whatever that would take a few minutes or so, by the end of the job the craving would have passed. For example, I'd get a craving and then start unloading the dishwasher, and by the time the last glass was put away the craving was gone. Sounds dumb, but if you can make it through that short period of time, you'll be OK.
