Used to, before my ears went bad. Did certs for basic open water, advanced open water, wreck, search/rescue/recover, cavern, and basic cave.

Deepest dive? about 1500' - in. Don't think the depth gauge ever registered more than 20 on that dive... deepest down was 120.

I've been certified since April, 1976 but have not been diving in 15 years. I used to own all of the equipment but I made the mistake of loaning it all to my dead beat cousin 15 years ago and ...Lets just say it is all gone [:(!]

Got trained well enough to go down with a diving baby sitter. It was cool. I'd do it again but feel no need to get certified myself.

I was fishing with friends 30 miles off shore from Freeport, Tx. one day when out of the distance came a small john boat. They tied up on the rig where we were fishing. And one guy in a wet suit went over the side of the john boat with spear gun in hand. He came up shortly with about a 30 lb grouper. Impressive. Then his buddy went over.
First off I could not believe they were that far out with that small of a boat and then to dive that rig solo. Them guys were either crazy or had balls the size of the fish they were spearing.

Yes, and like the other folks here, really enjoy diving. For me free diving or with tanks, fantastic. Greater freedom and a bit better bottom time with tanks. [;)] [8D]

Unfortunately have not been tank diving for about 13-15 months at this point! [:(] [V]

Have never dove with tanks outside of the Americas/Caribbean. Favorite diving area to this point has been Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Hope to get there before there are many more storms.

Don't want to wait until next season, to see what damage the [8] BP [8] oil gusher may cause. [?] [:(]

okkim Why were you asking ? ? ?

certified 83, most of my diving is off the coast of Alabama and panhandle of Florida. Visibility usually between 6' to 60' . Best dive was in the East China sea off Okinawa with daughter, a Marine at the time.

Deepest dive was 140', no desire to go much deeper.

I've been certified since 1987....when I was in Hawaii we used to go diving ALL of the time. A friend of mine took tourists out and had a deep sea boat business. That was some MAJOR fun there. We used to take off every chance we could. One thing I learned....my Jeep could pull a big boat...no problem, but it COULD NOT pull it out of the water. That was scary!

The last dive I went on was over 10 years ago now. The Bahamas....that is an excellent place to go (especially nite dives!)

Bought gear at 13, dove into lake alone!

Never certified- got a friend to fill for me.

He used it more than I did.

    Never any spectacular dives.

    Still fun.

Sold gear 6 or 7 years later.

Never commercially certified, but graduated the Combatant dive course in Panama City, FL. Used to dive all the time on Okinawa without a problem, knew pretty much everyone who ran a dive shop on the island, even used help a friend to get people open water PADI certified. Figured I wouldn't need my personal dive gear anymore when I left, as my home is 600 miles from an ocean, so I sold most of it. Last time I tried to rent gear to go diving down in the gulf, the punk kid at the dive shop wouldn't rent to me because I wasn't certified by NAUI or PADI and according to him (as he knows it all) there is no other way to learn how to dive. I called the dive shop owner, who was a retired navy salvage diver, he come in, fired the snotnosed brat, and rented me some gear. He died a few months later in a motorcycle accident and some new guy runs the shop now. Seems like some kind of punk * surfer dude, the shop went from being half diving history museum half store to being half surf shop half dive shop. I walked out and haven't been back, I haven't went diving since then, its just too much hassle. I would use my own but all that gear all used to be cheap when I was single, now it seems really expensive.

Certified in 1986 at age 16.

Best ever is Papua New Guinea, second best is Fiji. Deepest I have hit is 135 ft. Deep dives are interesting, but I'd much rather spend an hour on a reef at 50 - 60 ft so you can really look into all the nooks and crannys.

This thread got me curious, so I went to the NAUI site. They've changed their certification classifications... at least for us old farts that were certified before 1996.

    Certified in 1968.

I owned my own compressor. I had every Cert. that was ever offered, even Chamber Operator.

Bounce dive to 175 ft. Didn't see anything worthwhile so I didn't need to go back.

Recovered a few dead bodies for the Sheriff's Dive team. Don't need to do that again.

Got to hang out with several top names in spearfishing, underwater film and photograph.

Stopped diving when I got a knee replacement. Got rid of a lot of spear guns, scooters, underwater cameras and housings. Still got a lot of stuff to get rid of.
