My New airplane

edited June 2015 in General Discussion
I bought this GT400 it is a FAR legal 103, Rotax 447 40 HP motor with 107 hours on it. This plane has a boat load of instruments not normally seen on ultralights. I am mowing part of the field behind my house to make a 500 foot runway. It will take of in 150 feet.

    Very nice.
When I was a kid, my dad and a friend of his were WeedHopper dealers. We had one and he had one also.
They were not as fancy as yours though.

Nice looking plane. Must have a great wing loading spec. I'm building a Pietenpol with a Subaru E-81 import engine, about 50 horsepower.

Now figure out how to mount a Browning A5 on the side, inverted for easy reloading and get it sighted in and walla, you have a good coyote/wolf aerial control vehicle.

I have a few hours of fixed engine time but will make darn sure I am comfortable flying it by taking a bunch more time with an instructor.

By removing an unused section of fence I will have a 600 foot runway taking off into the prevailing SW winds in my yard.

Getting a camera hooked up to the wing is my next project.

That thing looks unsafe to me. Fly at your own risk. Just curious will it run on one plug if one fouls out? Does it have a back up fuel pump?

    What a beautiful little ultralight!

I have a lot of air time in ultralights. Here I am flying my Goldwing.

    5.jpg

What is the stall speed of your ultralight? What is the top speed?
You are in for a lot of fun with that little airplane. How much did it cost?

The stall speed is 26MPH by law the top speed is limited to 55 knots cruise speed at 65% power is about 50 MPH.

I was lucky, the guy needed to sell; I paid $7,000 for it.

Now this is a talented man. Not only can he fly...he flies his airplane backwards. Most people would be satisfied just being about to fly one the normal way. [:)]

What is its range on a tank? Why does it have only half a steering wheel, does it only fly in clockwise circles? Where is the parachute? Are you Nuts?![:0]

Sorry, I hate heights, not my idea of fun, but best to you.

That tank is not exactly 103 legal. According to FAR 103 the tank needs to be a max of 5 gallons. That one is 13 [:0] gallons. I will put a 5 gal tank in.

The steering wheel is like many famous airplanes, including the B-17!

Very cool, have fun. I have a Cessna 172N that I bought after getting my PPL last summer but have considered also getting a super cheap ultralight that I can keep out at my house. Got a huge rectangle yard in front of the grain bins that would be perfect for something like that.

Lets see a picture of the panel on that thing.
