From the article, it appears that this feller did have some mental issues, SEAL or no, and needed some help. Besides that, he was in violation of NY law. Protective custody detention is probably preferable to being jailed on a gun charge in New York.
Except that the NY law is a direct violation of our civil/individual rights the same as the old 'Jim Crow' laws in the south were!!!
I agree, but the law is there. "Jim Crow" laws were not changed by people simply violating them; they were changed by people putting pressure on legislatures.

You are wrong, civil disobedience with support of many brought about the change. We need a 'Rosa Parks' with a gun. The problem is we are not united as all the bad mouthing by many here of those who don't see eye to eye with them indicates. United we stand, divided we fall!!![:(!]

All I know is I look up to those special forces guys. Are they all perfect? Nope, but as a statistic they're a heckuva lot more solid citizen than the average joe.
In a decaying society where heroes are Dennis Rodman, Pacman Jones, Ray Lewis, Plaxico Burris, Jay-Z, Eminem, and Tupac Shukur, my heroes are SEALs and Army Rangers and Marines and fighter pilots.
When we start getting our heroes right in this country, then we can think about cleaning up the friggin' mess we're leaving for our grandkids.

I spent 8 years in an SF unit (A521 as the engineer) and I can tell you 'we' are not homicidal maniacs. The difference is we do not hesitate to act when it is required, or we, and possibly others, do not get see the next sunrise!!![;)]
