Nobody that was not recommended by the nominating committee gets on the ballot, period.
One can clearly read that only those who are on-board with the NRA gun-control agenda, are allowed to be voted on by the membership.
Gee, I wonder if the fix is in?
Most NRA members are completely ignorant of this available information and the remainder are willingly on-board with this machination.
NRA = slow selling of gun control by the US governmen's 'approved' gun-privileges organization.
Wake up people.
I know! I know. But I bet I do more for the gun rights here in Florida than any of the NRA whiners and bashers..
I have stated I do not like the NRA positions and the political standings at all..
I keep with the NRA to maintain my instructors credentials, and am able to help people obtain the permits. I am also in the process of helping write a bill to eliminate this intrustion on peoples right ( CCW permits)
We are curently envolved in the Open Carry issue here in Florida. I think open carry is rather dumb but that should be the right of those that wish to do so,, I think it is an EGO thing, you know :Look at me, I have a gun"
The NRA totally supports the youth shooting sport and gave us 3 grand to purchase our rifles for the Kids.. I dont see any of you whiners giving up much for the youth or actually doing anything to help the cause but whine and beat your chests in here about the evils of the NRA, Their politics stink but they have their good side also.. Of course you whiners will never look at the good that has been done..
You ask What do I give? well lets see, about 60 hours a month, furnish ammunition, accompany the kids to any competitions, Beth and I were talking the other day and checked our books and we spend on the average of 200 bucks a month out of our pocket in the support of the shooting sports.
I am hooked in with a couple of the state senators and I give them my perspective on many of the gun bills that arise in this state.. Does it matter,, I dont know if it influences them at all, but At least I know I have voiced my opinion as a gun ownere.. All of you might just try that, It might get something done instead of whining about it.
I belong because they, the NRA, run competitive shooting matches, set the rules and regulations and maintain records thereof.
You really need to separate the NRA from the scumbags in the NRA-ILA.
I am a PATRON member of the NRA and get a free magazine!

It is all part of the same organization, therefore, separation is impossible.
That is too bad, because the NRA does a real good job in the shooting sports and range areas.

+1
They are a good sanctioning organization, and the American Rifleman does have some very interesting articles about different firearms.
The political end of it, OTOH, leaves a lot to be desired.
I Get an email almost daily on what is going on with gun legislation.. NRA_ILA keeps me informed very well.

Talk about beating your chest and shouting 'look at me'.[xx(]
You want a medal, or a chest to pin it on?
As to any 'whiners' you reference, factually, you know exactly squat about what they may of may not do, or be involved in.
I maintain that five minutes spent putting out factual NRA information to a group of more than one person, has far more valuable than all the other crap you spout off about.
Hate to break it to you, but kids and people can shoot and be trained in many areas and not have any NRA involvement.
Just so you know.
As far as beating my chest, I will match my efforts against your whining any day of the week.. I could run around telling people how bad something is but that doesnt get a damn thing done, so your efforts suck as far as actualy doing something yourself.. How many laws in your state have you helped get REPEALED? How many new Proposals have you helped Stop in their tracks? Inquireing minds would like to know just what do you do except spout your hatred for the NRA. Why wont you admit the NRA does a good job in the training and awards and the orginization of the shooting sports. It wouldnt hurt you to do that would it? I have said their Politics stink.. I at least admit their bad quality but still am able to recognize the good that they do. C'mon you can do it,, admit they do some good.
Oh I am sure there are many other training ways. However things like if you want a carry permit in this state you need me or someone like me to sign off on you as qualified..NRA CERTIFIED FIREARMS SAFETY INSTRUCTOR,
This, IMO says almost all that is needed regarding the problem with the NRA-ILA.
Lobbyists that support legislation that mandates funding of their parent group under the guise of supporting the 2nd Amendment.

I applaud you and your wife's efforts in helping promote the shooting sports.
From your above post I think you can see the issue and conflicts involved with having to be signed off on by someone especially someone holding a private certificate.
I know we occasionally have to operate in the system despite moral objections, while attempting to change the system. I see you are trying to change the system, I hope you can see the moral conflicts involved with the NRA being embedded in the government process.
Yes I do see the issue of me having to sign off on someone to exercize their right, However it is a necessary evil at this time (the written law says so) and I did post that I am working on legislation with a state senator to eliminate the carry permit here in florida, essentially putting myself out of a paying position..[:0]I am getting extremely rich at it to. 4 hour course and 2 at the range, 6 hours total for 35 bucks.. yep making a fortune..That 35 bucks almost pays for my material..Some of you might just understand why I do it and why so cheap.[;)]
Thank you
I wish there were no compromises, and that the government would listen to those that are hollering, but it aint gonna happen. Which would you rather lose, a little or all?? You can always fight to get back the little ya lost//[:0] It has been working here in Florida...
Iam a novice to this debate. I was alway under the impression the NRA was the leading and most influential (ie effective)organization fighting for gun owners rights. I am confused how this is not so?
Open your mind, look past the dog and pony show, and education awaits you.
Iam a novice to this debate. I was alway under the impression the NRA was the leading and most influential (ie effective)organization fighting for gun owners rights. I am confused how this is not so?
The primary concern is the acceptance of gun ownership as a privilege as compared to a right.
Classic is one who plays the game yet understands that difference and is making a positive impact both on individuals and through advocacy by pushing back at the unconstitutional regulations that exist. He should, IMO, be applauded for these positive contributions even though working through a flawed system. There are many who do not recognize the flaws, and accept the stance taken by the NRA-ILA that the 2nd Amendment exists to preserve the ability for vetted people to purchase firearms for hunting, sport, and self-defense.
The NRA starts off with a compromised acceptance of government authority and control over gun ownership. Their approach is successful in retaining regulated firearms ownership for many, but that very approach tears at the fabric of the 2nd.
I find the entire FFL system and form 4473 to be an affront to freedom. When I find something I want to purchase located in another state, however, I swallow hard and fill out the form.

I hope I live long enough to see the Carry Permit dumped and law abiding citizens can choose to carry or not, their choice not the governments..[:p]

It's like bad breath - it's better than no breath at all.
NRA Members get the illusion of having a voting-voice in who runs the org. In reality, the NRA has a 'Nominating Committee' who's task is to 'screen' likely candidates for their qualifications to meet the 'needs of the association' and to only select and recommend (allow on the ballot) the 'most qualified' candidates to the voting members.
Nobody that was not recommended by the nominating committee gets on the ballot, period.

You must have quit before the Cincinnati revolt in 1977. There was a time when there were only as many people on the ballot as there were
open positions.
I liked the changes but opening the vote to non-life members reduced the value of my Life membership.
I only wish my work here in Florida would be effective on the Federal Level, but them people have their own agenda and really dont give a damn what an old man has to say.. I figure if I can change things at the local and state level as many states are getting tired of the Feds stepping on our State Constitutions and telling them to mind their own business, it may spread,, sometimes it is better to work from the bottom up..[;)]
Yes
The stranglehold on this country is like a snake wrapped around our liberty. You can't kill this snake by cutting off the head, it can only be killed from the tail forward.
Working at the local level is the most important thing people can do.

With public officials like Carter, Clinton, Nobama, Reid, Schumer, Pelosi, Feinstein, etc. around, I ask you where would our gun rights be without the NRA?
If we have lost ground it's because of various legislative proposals by the nitwits in Congress, not from lack of effort on the part of the NRA. The Assault Weapon Ban (AWB) did not go away out of the kindness of the hearts of Reid, Pelosi and Nobama! Granted the AWB should have never been passed in the first place but if you don't think the NRA put up a fight, you need to do some research.
I hate to justify compromise with reference to our gun rights, but the GCA of '68, the AWB, etc. could have been and were VERY CLOSE TO BEING A LOT WORSE!!!
Numbers mean a lot in politics and if you're an NRA member, you're putting your money where your mouth is and being counted on the membership roll. If you're not, it's like staying at home on election day and then b and m'ing when your guy doesn't get elected.
JOIN THE NRA! Does anyone know a more effective voice in the gun control debate? Anyone? Anyone? Until someone comes up with a better solution, it's the best chance we've got!!!

Yes, but the JPFO is Jewish...
Hey, I had to make cuts...
The kicker was the Disclose Act. I don't like that kind of Washington Insider maneuver.
If you think something is a bad idea, then fight it.
To think something is a bad idea unless you get an exemption from it is, in my opinion, intellectually dishonest.

That is EXACTLY how President of the United States is done! Wow! Who did it first?
I've been a Life,Patron or Benefactor member since '72 and while we may not like everything the NRA or NRA/ILA do, they/we are without a doubt, one of the most powerful single issue organizations in the country and OUR most powerful voice. Just ask "Slick Willy".

The NRA gives written endorements and money to POS socialist candidates who are working very hard to destroy individual liberty in this country. Actions speak volumes.
I need look no further than my own congressional district to prove my point. Where would we be without the NRA? Certainly not worse off.
The NRA does not speak for this "gun owner"
you need to do some research
I (and others) have, will you?

I ckeck up with all the anti gun agenda.
I dont care about who is running the org, I dont have an illusion of having a voting-voice in who runs the org.
I get plenty of info from nra ila. I get my magazine.
I have gotten more membership to other gun rights, and I do join them too, I figure the more I can join the better off because the number of our voices.
I am a life member, 1 I dont have to worry about renewing, as a disabled vet....
I did not read beyond that point.
Just wondered if you knew that the NRA supported H.R. 2640 McCarthy/Leahy Gun Control Bill?
A bill which could prohibit military veterans from ever owning firearms in their lifetime?
A bill which could prohibit military veterans from ever owning firearms in their lifetime?
That bill was aimed at Veterans that were deemed mentally unfit, Severe PTSD , However In the state of Florida in order for anyone with mental problems they must be ADJUDICATED (by the courts) as such before they can not purchase firearms..

The bill goes way beyond PTSD.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Ever hear of it? How many kids are wrongly diagnosed with it each year just because some parents would rather stuff their kid full of drugs than spend two minutes explaining how to do something with them.. Then the kid grows up and becomes a surgeon and wants to buy a gun. If the background check reviles that he was treated for ADHD. He can be denied the right to own a firearm or will have to go through a court system to convince them he has a stable mind.

yes, they do a good job with shooting sports and education. I think that if a person wanted to be a member for those reasons, that they ought to be informed about how corrupting the rest of the organization is.

Note that when Don says "self defense" above, the NRA only advocates self-defense from another citizen (such as theft or attacks on your person), not federal government (i.e. (a) tyrannical government(s)). This is a fairly important distinction, because the 2nd amendment is primarily directed toward the latter.
