I buy a lot of what I consider throw away tools and supplies like throw away paint brushes and latex gloves. $20 air stapler and finish nalier have been godsends. The small vibratory tool for $17 has also been great. Went with Dewalt 18 volt drill, circular saw and saws all because I use them often and hard. A lot of their stuff is so cheap that if you use it once it has paid for itself. Made in China is sadly almost impossible to avoid today. Most Craftsman stuff is made there now. Most of their stuff has a good guarantee so no problem.
alot of the items I bought there were from pakistan not china and I knew I was getting what I was paying for so and alot of times I buy stuff for a once or twice use and that's it.
I don't hear anybody complaining about chinese AK 47'S..............
My Son bought a Arbor Press from Them to remove a Pressed Bearing from a Wheel.
All We succeeded in doing was to bend the Top Crossbar of the Press until it resembled a Boomerang.

I have a number of HF tools, that frankly, are just fine. You can tell which tools are crap and which are decent.
You won't mistake them for craftsman, cornwall, etc., but the truth is that some of the tools are probably the same ones, and I mean EXACTLY the same ones, you buy, like the kobalt, etc.
The 301 pc tool kit is terriffic. It has a huge assortment of sockets, a decent number of ratchets and accessorties, and a ton of other little bits, screwdrivers, pliers, etc., that aren't as good as the sockets, but will do the job. And the case is far better than the craftsman plastic. All for about $150.00. Sorry, but you have to be honest about it.
I also call it "Bed Bath and Beyond for Boys". If you are married, you will get 20% off coupons for BBB all the time - just like HF. If you have ever been to a BBB, there is a lot of crap there, but they do have some good deals - just like HF.

Excellent analogy! I prefer the "beyond" department at BB&B!!!
A few months ago I had to do a quick and dirty brake job on my old Envoy. I used the 301 pc set. While I was working, the tire rolled away from me, and rolled over the top of the hinged lid of the tool kit, breaking one of the hinges (it would have done it to any case, so it's not an HF issue).
HF has a return policy; I have the reciept (I keep it in the kit), so just for the hell of it, I took it back, told them what happened, and completely fessed up to how it happened. They said no problem, just grab another.
About a week later, I was on my way back from court (HF is near the courthouse), and just for some shopping therapy, I stopped in.
HF has a returns and missing pieces section, where they sell these things at a steep discount. There was my kit, all the tools still in place, just with a broken case, for $100.00. There was no question that I had to buy it.
So I now have a spare kit, with a bungee wrapped around it, that I keep in the truck. Not too shabby....
I needed to transport my motorcycle to get new tires put on it. The day that I had scheduled for the shop to get my bike in, it decided it wanted to rain...all day. And it was a 200 mile round trip.
I had a truck, but no ramps. And I had money in the bank, but really couldn't afford to spend anything on anything extra.
So I went to Harbor Freight, bought a 3-section folding ramp for 100, used it to load the bike, took the bike in and had the tires changed, brought it all back, unloaded, and took the ramp back for a full refund. No questions asked.
All I'm saying is that I would have had a troubled conscience if I had done such a thing - or contemplated it. You can make your own ethical decisions.
But I'm pretty sure you'd be less sanguine if somebody "borrowed" your motorcycle for a day - because he couldn't afford to buy one and nobody would rent him one.

I'm a cheapskate, very cheap and I complain all the time about high prices and my ability to shop around to save money. However I cannot do what Zulu did, that is just wrong. If I buy something it is mine and I will only return if defective. If I need the money back I will sell it and most likely take a loss. But I will not feel as if I just screwed over a store or retailer.
With that said, when it comes to tools I will not spend money on cheap garbage. Tools are for life, spend a little now and do not worry about them. Like I said my cheapest hand tools are Craftsman and all my tools live in Snap-On boxes.
Necessity is the mother of invention, and apparently the evil step mom of those with ready access to HF and no conscience.[:I]

HF had those ramps in stock with the expectation of making a set amount of profit from the sale of them. They did NOT secede.
SO, to make up the profit lost, they increased the price on another item. Just basic business policy.
Thanks for making ME spend $19.95 for a chain that was $18.95 before

Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!
My wife used to pull that type of stunt with things she only wanted for one event. It really made me cringe but if she has done it in the last few years at least she no longer tells me about it. I really thought it was cheesy.

Charles, ethics are like faces: everybody has 'em and no two are alike.
Here's a true story about how I treat gifts: I was recently given a very nice fly fishing vest. It didn't suit my needs but I held on to it for a couple weeks. Then my barber mentioned he had just taken up fly fishing; on my next visit to him I presented him with the vest - stocked with a forceps and some flies.
I'm not bragging or comparing my actions with anyone else's. But you did ask, so I'm illustrating my answer with an example.
