Great gun! Who-ever bought it for you knew what they were doing! Welcome to our forum. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We'll answer them the best that we can. You are just starting on a long and wonderful journey. I am a bit jealous.

There are only two simple things you need to ALWAYS remember and that is, muzzle control, and every gun is loaded. ALWAYS and I do mean ALWAYS know where your muzzle is pointed. Never get lazy about it or complacent about it because, that is the one thing that will get you into trouble when it comes to handling guns. Poor muzzle control equals accidents!!! Another thing is a gun you KNOW is not loaded, is loaded!!! Even on a gun that you KNOW is empty you must consider it as a loaded weapon!!! Every gun is loaded (no exceptions). Even if you just unloaded it 5 minutes ago it is still loaded. Everygun you lay your eyes on is loaded. Follow those two simple rules and you will have no problems.. Slip just for a second and it will be a crap shoot as to weather or not something really bad happens!!

Welcome abord. I am defently glad to see some younger members. This means that my great great grandkids might be able to own guns. Don't worry about your age. I have been told that I am a 10 year old trapped in a 25 year old body. Even though I feel like I am going on 90 some days.

If you need any help with any thing just ask this 'ol Marine. I will help you all I can.

Stick around, young man, ask lots of questions, and you'll learn lots more about guns, shooting, and hunting. The gun you have is a quality gun. If you take care of it, properly clean and care for it, and use it safely, it will last you a life time, and you can pass it down to your children or grand children.

    Welcome.

    Welcome ruger 10 22,

Take care of that quality 22 and it will last you a life time. Don't ever sell, trade or give it away. This rifle will mean more to you over your life than any other you may have. Doesn't it feel good to know that your dad trusts you and thinks you are mature enough to have your own firearm. He must be proud of you. It's up to you to honor that trust.

Welcome young man. I am one of those cantankerous old geezers that loves to see young people with an interest in firearms. Although you may get some stupid answers you won't ask any stupid questions. We have all been there before (although it gets harder for some of us to remember).

Welcome aboard the good ship Gunbroker!
I can't imagine a better place for a new gun owner to land than right here.
Lots of knowledgeable folks here, but remember, all those stars next to some names only means that they probably spend more time posting "expert opinions" and engaging in mindless chit-chat than actually gaining knowledge about firearms and shooting.

    I'd guess you got a Ruger 10 22 [:D]

    109L.gif

I've been looking at one of these, the K10/22RPF, for a while, but have not gotten it.

    Which one did you receive?

The 22LR rounds I use are CCI MiniMags, $3.50 per 100 online.
They seem to pop out of my Browning with a nice snap.

Do you have a favorite ammo?

Hey welcome aboard, did you get to shoot your new gun yet? Rugers sure are nice! Let us know how you like it, and don't forget to invite your dad on gunbroker too!

Don't be afraid to ask any questions you have, a lot of smart people on here!

Welcome to the forum, ya little wipper-snapper. [:D]
I am probably one of those cantankerous old farts (at times.)

I am REALLY glad to see young adults, like you, getting involved with firearms.
I am sure your dad has told you 1000 times about gun safety,
but you will have to put up with us telling you the same thing.

If you want to look up a question about guns (or just about anything)
Don't be afraid to use the "Search" feature, located in the top right corner of this page.
If you still do not find an answer, come back and ask about it.
The only stupid question, is the one you do not ask.
A lot of us old codgers have learned a thing or two here, I am sure you will too.

    Welcome aboard young man!

    Do be careful here,
there are those who will tell you different,
but, you've got a great combo there.

    A Ruger, and it's a 22.

Some of these old buzzards will tell you there's better brands,
they'll even try to get you to buy a bigger caliber. [;)]

You know your dad gave you that one for a reason.
It's about as good as it gets! [^]

Welcome, and I agree with what was said above -- every gun is always loaded and ready to fire -- even when you know it isn't. Even when the safety is on. Even when you learn to take the darn thing apart and look down the barrel. Do it with caution. Never point that nice gun at anything you are not willing to see harmed, and you'll be fine. Even when you just got done unloading it. It's still loaded and ready to fire. Got that? More people seem to shoot somebody while "cleaning" or dropping or dry firing "empty" guns, so just treat all guns the same. Loaded.

13 years old and still shooting a 10 22? When I was your age I was shooting a .338 Ultra Mag!!!

Just kidding, I am still afraid to shoot a .338 Ultra Mag.

You have a nice gun and don't forget to eat what you kill. So I would shoot cans full of baked beans and such if I were you.

    Welcome aboard.

To get the pic in, I went to the Ruger site, and on my Mac, clicked on the pic while holding down the control key. It lets me to "Open image in new window".

I C&P this window's URL betwen the code you get when you hit the icon_editor_image.gif button, and voila, GB links to the URL and the picture appears.

When I started, I'd drag the photo off someone's web site, put it in a server, get the host server's url and use that one.

This new way is so much easier.
You might say I was posting it on Ruger's dime.
